Chasing 1/4 200yd with Browning .300 Wm Boss

I used to live not too far from you, Park Glenn Subdivision in the North, NW Ft. Worth.
I'll be glad to send you the Browning BOSS sweetspots file if you dont have it. You start with something close to your load and start adjusting. ThinK of the BOSS like a clock. After Setting 10 is reached, then it is back to Zero.
Anyways, I don't have any load development for the 300WM, I have collected recommendations from others, I usually check the Data books, Run QL and GRT simulations and then decide where to start. @FEENIX,
There are also members her from Alaska and Canada that can make recommendations for cold weather and your 300WM, however, we all have our favorite bullet brand.
Cheers
Small world!! Sure thing!! Anything that can help narrow down before I start bleeding funds .. only to find out it's a dead end..as well as knowing what my gun will like to shoot.. 26" Barrel and 1-10 twist .. getting in the ballpark like using a bore sight, just so I can hit paper!!! I will have to narrow down to 1 bullet 1 powder and 1 primer and 1 brass and then the FUN begins.. just moved and having to rebuild my powder collection etc!!

@asd9055 made a suggestion "@FENIX an active member here has loaded a lot of Bergers, so he might be able to give you some direction."

@Fenix Outdoors I would truly appreciate any .300 WMag 210gr Berger combos, you feel like sharing in hopes it would be a great place to start !!

Settling on a powder that will both hold FPS as well as Accuracy in a cooler climate avg 30-55 degrees F. Knowing Mag primers will help light up most powders in a cooler/wet environment.. I would highly appreciate a push to narrow down my process.. longest shot out to 500-600yd max but avg in the 200-400yd on avg!!

Any insight or questions you have just shoot me a message and I will reply asap!!

1-10 twist 26"Barrel A-Bolt II action Boss system hopefully around 3k FPS with Bergers 210g Norma Brass if needed for 95 gr capacity or ADG .. #215M primers or CCI 250.. Powder: H1000, Retumbo, R-23,26 or your suggestion.. cartridge OAL 3.53 magazine max fed or single reload.. prefer mag fed.

You are welcome to suggest anything you feel might work, knowing you are the experienced one and of course, I do not hold you or anyone one else liable or legally responsible for any suggestions you make .. that " I choose to attempt !"

Thank all of you LRH vets coming to my rescue!!

Kind regards,
Aaron Houp

We are moving to Ketchikan Alaska and it's a place that should give me access to maybe use this old gun with some Berger 210s if I can punch single holes at 200yd !! If not I will have to chase down what this gun likes to eat!

Aaron,

Welcome to LRH, and enjoy! I was in Ketchikan in August 2024. What a beautiful place. I am sure you'll have a blast over there.

I cannot PM you until you have 20+ posts, but let's get you started. As with anything else, YMMV. I have 3.300 WMs with different loads, and COAL varies from 3.5 to 3.7. H1000 in .300 WM and 210/215 Berger has been deadly in LRH. However, I had better success in accuracy and velocity with H4831SC.

Let's start with powder choices, keeping it simple and staying with temp-stable powders. In single-base, the Hodgdon extreme powders like the H1000, Retumbo, and H4831/SC are excellent starting points, and in double-base, Ramshot Grand and Winchester StaBALL HD are excellent starting points. In a nutshell, you want to use a powder ~in this burn rate range ...

Your choice of primers is excellent (I prefer CCI250 over 215M). ADG is a better brass than Norma (softer), but both will work. I am not saying it is impossible, but because of your shorter COAL, a 3000 FPS with 210 Berger might be a challenge.

If your goal is in the 3000 FPS MV, you might have to go lighter, i.e., in the 180-190 range. I propel the 190 VLDs at 3043 FPS and killed an elk with it, but my COAL is near 3.7. However, if your goal is to kill a moose-sized game effectively at<600 yards, the 215 Berger is a bad medicine. The 215s are also more forgiving to load than the VLDs.

Just some things for you to ponder ...
