Cartridge Decisions! O My!!

I personally have the 30-378 and I really enjoy it with 220 gr sierras. the longest shot I've made personally with it on game has only been 610 yards on a whitetail doe . It's hard to find places in central Wv to really stretch out and hunt long range. But my buddy shoots it at his camp out to 1200 pretty regularly. I personally would like to get something in 338 as quintus said maybe the 338-378. Or maybe neck down the 416 rigby to something awesome if it hasn't already been done .

Just wondering, the 338-378, if I did a 27" tube without killing the case would I be able to push say 2950-3000 FPS with a 300gr Berger or a 304gr hammer hunter? Or would I be looking at like 2800-2850ish range

Nosler manual number 6 is showing a 250 partition at 3034 FPS with a max charge of imr 7828 . With a 26 inch tube. With the newer slower magnum powders you may be very capable of pushing a 300 gr that fast maybe. That would definitely be a reach out and touch and uproot whatever you hit . Lol

Peterson Cartridge and there ELR team of Shane Bryan and Paul Phillips did a nice representation at the 2022 ELK in Kansas:
Paul using the 33XC hit @ 3370 yards & Shane with the 375 CheyTex 3600 yards

is there a reloading guide that has the 300 Norma reloading info! I have the Nosler Guide 8, and it does not.

ALSO!! Other then case design/shoulder is there really any benefit of a 300 Norma vs say a 30-378 Weatherby.

I currently have my Mark V in a 300 Weatherby but really for some reason I want a 300 Norma or a 30-378, I don't know why for a long time I have wanted a 30-378 but really like the Norma also! This is a hunting rig primarily but will also use it for some local comps and most that's read my previous post would know but my plan is:

Leopold VX5HD 3-15x56
McMillan Adj Game Warden Stock
26-27" #5 contour Hart tube 1:9 twist
Will shoot 200-230 Berger hybrids and looking at the 200ish+ Hammer Hunters also.

Hart uses a Vias Radial Break but not 100% sure if I want a Radial so I am open for non radial break suggestions.
If you get a 30-378 or similar, get the longest barrel you can absolutely stand. Blast and concussion is incredible.

My brother has the custom 308 Norma Mag some 30 + years and I have my 30-378 Wby MAG now some what 20 years and we love them both. Blast is no worse than a 50 BMG for sure. I don't know the 300 Norma so I can't say- also have the 300 Win Mag & 300 Wby Mag using the Noslers 150 & 180 Gr SilverTips -Partitions with no problems and taken Rams-Goats-Elk-Moose-Deer. There is a difference between all the 30's but like I said don't know the 300 Norma. We have 26 in tubes except the 300 WBY MAG new bbl w/ 28 inch.

If I need to go to a heavier bullet I'll do the 338's Either the Win or to the Lapua with a 28 In tube and even the 259 gr and still get some or to the 35 Whelen AI or the 375 CT / 50BMG but that's a different shooting !! The 300 Norma does buggy along I'll give it that. Can get 3000 + with the 30-378 w/200 gr . Or go to the 338's with the 210-225 Gr or the 250gr and get very close to the 3's +

No I got it with the 26in bbl- but shot the 300 out and had a 28 bbl put on- wanted to reach out and touch some game in BC. NWT, Alberta, Yukon. Ontario, + out west Idaho,Utah.Montana,Wyoming,Colorado,Texas, New Mexico,Alaska NY,PA,NH.Vermont,Maine might have missed a place or two along the way. Also have a custom Wby Mk V that Hart done for me with a 28 in bbl in 7MM Rem mag blueprinted action and L.E. Wilson straight custom bushing dies that Hart done when he cut the chamber & dies at the same time- that shoots sub 1/2" all day long with Nosler Partitions & CT Silvertips . Still have the 200 rounds of brass that was done up with that rifle. My Hart custom 7mm & 300 Wby travel together on hunting trips for sure . The 30-378 is a Wby Accumark blueprinted w/ brake its a shooter w/ 180 gr. Just TOYS- got to love them !!!
