Can't decide on a trimmer....

A Lee Tool user too. I have used the Lee Case trimmer for years. I have had to pull the pin on one and add epoxy to get about .006 longer and stone a little off of a pin or 2 to get the exact length I want. I cut off a hex shaft nut driver and silver soldered it to the bottom of the old knurled hand base to power them before Lee offered it. Have one of those now too. Put case in, trim to length, pick up champher tool do inside and outside of neck. For new cases pick up flash hole uni-former and do flash hole. For old crusty case a swipe of 0000 steel. Remove case. May not be a fancy set up but, Allows fast precise trimming.

YEA! Just flat works.

I wish Lee would just come out with a shell holder for the drill that has some type of wing nut deal, where my fingers don't get tired after tightening up several hundred 223 cases, that would be awesome....
The little round knurled nut is a pain after a while, not so bad with 20-30 '06 or Weatherby cases. But 300 223 is dreadful.....

Bought the little gold Forester case trimmer back in the 70's..got all the pilots/collets and outside neck turner and a few inside neck reammers, I wouldn't trade it for anything !! It's not for mass trimming but perfect for take your time boxes of 20... I've trimmed 1000's and it's never been resharpening and has never been any problem.

There's something about this Hornady case prep center that I really like ...

I have this one for small runs like my hunting rifles.

with the 3 in 1 cutter head it trims and chamfers and deburs at one pass

Put an electric screwdriver on in place of the handle and made the process much less painfull

but for mass production of those .223 cases I went to this. Trimming brass is no longer a chore

I have used the Lyman and Forster case trimmers for 40 years without any problems. If you purchase the Lyman, get the one with a carbide cutter. The Forster comes with a carbide cutter but you may want to purchase the longer base as well.

Get one of these:

Lee Zip Trim Case Trimmer Universal 3 Jaw Chuck Case Holder

It replaces the regular shell holder that comes with the Case Length Gauge. It is awesome. Took me a while to figure out how to use it.

With it locked in the drill chuck:
1) Grip the ring and turning the drill counter clockwise. This opens the jaws.
2) Insert the case
3) grip the ring and turn the drill clockwise. This locks the case in the jaws. Doesn't take much pressure.
4) Trim your case
5) Grip the ring again and turn the drill counter clockwise.
6) Remove case.

I also use these wooden ball grip for the case cutters. Have one for each cutter and case length gauge I use. Makes it easy on the hands.

Update: Looks like you need one of these to go with the 3 jaw chuck. Why it doesn't come with it is a mystery...

I'm glad to see there are lots of other people who agonize over equipment purchases as much as I do. :)
