Can 308 do everything you need a rifle to do under 600 yards?

I had the same dilemma. Instead of buying new guns, I added a chassis to 2. Bought better scopes. Found someone to mentor me on long range shooting...(Thats how I ended up here)

Learn long range shooting with what i have. If i NEED more gun its because I need more gun and not trying to make up for something I dont know.

On the 308.Personally I would not hesitant to use a 308 out to 600. I use to run mine out to 1000 for practice with a 168. The 175 Amax also were very good out to 1000 for practice. 160 something accubond would probably be bulletproof in a 308 to 600 even on a grizzly or an elk. But on the grizz I would probably be prepared to keep racking the bolt as long as I could get rounds in the animal. On an elk at 600 I think I would shoot for the vitals at 600 and not the shoulder. All depends on energy at that distance with what bullet your running. I was getting about 2825 I think on my 26 inch 308. That was with a 168 amax and 4895. The 175 were around 2775. Would have to look over old notes to be exact. So yes the 308 makes a good light recoil all around gun. It

To the OP absolutely on the game taking capability of the .308! To 600 on elk, with a good rest and little to no wind I' d drop the hammer in a heartbeat....on bears of any size, it's my personal belief to stay sub 300, but that's about recovery if things go wrong on bears not it's ability...totally nuther topic I get it.

I grew up hunting with a remington 600-308. Killed a pile of deer, elk and bears. 150 core lokt to 400 was never an issue. Only put it away to use a 284 win. that my dad built for me. Since then I have bought and built a few 308's for hunting and targets. Still partial to a 150 be it a ballistic tip or accu-bond I have no reservations on 600 yard shooting on any of the big game I hunt.

I'm shooting the 195tmk at 2704 out of my 308 with CFE223. I Have to single load in the rifle due to long coal however if I were to change to another one in the safe I can feed with a bit of work and a Baney box. This is a 12tw the other is a 10 and I would shoot the 215hybrid and I know I can reach 2600-2650 with that combo. Not much will walk away from either at 600yds with a well-placed shot.

If theres a link here showing 308 Chassis hunting rigs, I would like to get some ideas about that as well. Or if anyone on this thread has one...show your do everything 308s.

A chassis in cold weather really sucks to carry. I carried my 270 in a mdt lss-xl in 0 degree weather recently my hands hurt just thinking about it. It does sit in my tri pod better than the regular stock though. Weight is under 9.5#s with glass so not terrible. IF you don't deal with cold but do have heat don't get black or cerracote it a lighter color.

Show a photo if you dont mind. Barrel length?

THE group shows another cold problem. This has the Burris rings with the inserts. If it is near 0 the inserts shrink causing the scope to move to cause erratic shooting. This is different days and typical of the rifle's performance
