Bull barrel vs Sporter rimfires

I was wondering if anyone has noticed an accuracy increase in a rimfire, specifically 17hmr, with a bull barrel instead of a Sporter.

I used to shoot a savage 93r17 with a bull all the time, and it was accurate. But I didn't like the balance. I'm looking at a nice cz 457 but it has a Sporter. I'm wondering if I'd be loosing anything on the accuracy side. I wouldn't think so...

I joined rejoined the 17hmr club. I picked up the cz457 I had my eye on. It's a beaut. Very nice wood.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have iron sights, so I may have the look into adding those in the future at some point.

This is my first cz. I am very surprised with the quality. They even include their proof test rounds sheet with data. Very excited to get a scope on it, overpay for some ammo, and see what it can do!

It has some very nice wood, and shoots great too! That target is with 20 mph gusts at 100yds and me having a hard time seeing the center of the reticle and bull

I also have a CZ457 - great, like right out of the box.

My rifle likes Federal TNT's. Green target 50 yards, red target 100 (5-7 mph breeze). Both targets shot with same scope adjustments. Scope is an ancient Weaver 6-20X40 Grand Slam. I really can't tell much about the wood quality because there is so much heavy semi-opaque stain and finish applied. I'm planning to get lower scope rings so I can remove the camo comb riser from the stock. I wish the receiver was drilled & tapped for 6-48's so I could use Burris 1' Signature Zee rings. Warne rings now. Great trigger & handles well. Don't think a heavy barrel would improve things much. Just guessing, a 20" barrel might be optimum for the .17 HMR. Groups sort have similar shapes. Bullet drops about 8 inches at 200. Perfect gopher gun for near farm house & barn.

That's pretty dang good and a good looking gun!

I got Burris rimfire rings for mine. I had wished I'd gotten some bases so I could put real rings on it, but the height is just right

Good shooting! I'm sure mine would have been a bit better if I'd been shooting. I hadn't been out for at least a few months

This is a Sako plastic stock Quad in 17 HMR. Your CZ looks like it is doing pretty well and is much prettier than mine LOL. IMHO, any rimfire shooting close to MOA at 100 yds. is very good - especially compared to years ago. You had to have an Anschutz or similar to do that. At least nothing I had would.

Yup, after reading a bit about accuracy in rimfires, it's kind of crazy how much you have to put into the gun to get 1/2" accuracy at 100yds. Almost the same as a CF!
