Building off of a savage action

if it makes a guy feel like hes being thrifty putting a $900 barrel on a rough, sloppy and ugly savage then go for it. but hes be better off with a cheap prefit like a mcgowan and hope for the best.. if its just as good how come you dont see them at matches? Does a tight concentric action mean nothing? those idiot PRS shooters are wasting their money apparently.

And dont come at me telling me this guys on a budget I know for a fact he does very well selling used subarus.

Mcgowen is not in the same quality class a proof, steel or carbon, a two grand action won't out shoot it's barrel.
The Curtis action which many are liking is just as if not sloppier than a Savage, a Savage is the only factory action you see in many matches, I shoot BR with a Savage and I win my fair share of relays.
Putting a proof on a Savage is no different than any other factory action, I've seen some stupid shooting Savages, Remington, Tikkas, Sakos and Weatherbies with Proof barrels.

How is it "sloppy"? Just because it' not fully supported in the rear and has a floating forward lug set, and put good factory ammunition within a MOA, then when you put a proper handload down it, it' in the 1/2 MOA, then when you screw on an after-market tube of your chamber liking, squared up receiver, give lugs a little lapping love, it becomes a sub-MOA rifle, with little effort and the same attention to detail, that you can do in your shop/garage/work bench. I like my current and only Remington (2016 vintage) 300RUM Stainless LRH, but with every box of hand tuned rounds, gets me closer to a re-barrel into a XXX RUM. So I'l take the Savage Sloppy Seconds everyday and twice on range days.

I wasted a my money on a turdded 7mm Mag Benchmark barrel and Manners stock, and it just shoots turd groups all day!

Then I guess I'm a monster for putting a $2k Nightforce on my Savage?

My thinking is that a $900 barrel is going to make most any rifle shoot better.

not saying a turd cant be souped up.. just saying why? why go cheap then pour money into it. just buy good stuff, cause at the end of the day its still an ugly sloppy rough sawn savage

.. just saying why?

Why not?

....why go cheap then pour money into it. just buy good stuff, cause at the end of the day its still an ugly sloppy rough sawn savage

...at the end of the day....All the bullets are in the same hole....

.....at the end of the day, why spend more to do the same thing?

Your going to buy a good barrel and trigger either...same parts for both builds...you pour more money into the Stiller build than a Savage build!

Umm I think I said why not.... because it's still an ugly savage. If I spend money on a build I want it to shoot good look good and feel good... putting a bullet in the hole is the goal but the whole picture is more than that. A nice rifle is huge... hopefully none of you have believe trucks otherwise you are hypocrites.... afterall a $500 Chevy luv will get you to work and otherplaces you want to get.

I'm just curious what makes an action look good. Its a steel tube, with threads and a bolt handle with another longer tube screwed into the shorter tube. Some of them have nice finishes and some have integral recoil lugs/pic rails. I will grant some have flat sides and some are round. I must be into ugly stuff because I don't know why a savage is ugly and my M700 isn't.
