Winmag.

I don't see a problem with eather the 340 Weatherby or the 338 rum.

The 340 Is very powerful and a great Elk Cartridge. It will fit your action with little or no
changes.

My personal preference would be the 338 RUM because= Brass price, slightly more case
capacity, and .065 Thousandths shorter (2.760 compared to 2.825 of the Weatherbys).

For a carry rifle I would go with a 24" #5 or#6 Lilja or equal with a muzzle break to keep
the overall length of the rifle reasonable.

Both the 240 and the 338 RUM will be tough with this weight barrel so the option to break
is yours.

I have 2 338 RUMs and like there performance with 225 and 250 grain bullets one is a un-
braked 26" barreled MK5 and the other has a 30'' barrel and the velocity difference is not
that much.

I limit both rifles to 1100yards on elk for POI energy and my ability to feel comfortable to
make a shot at those distances on Elk.

The 240 Weatherby would be the easiest and the rum may only require opening the rails
a little.

Have fun !!!!
