Now I'm worried . Perhaps it's too much neck tension . Shot my Browning XBolt max long range today . Received ADG brass. But because I don't have the neck size bushing yet for my fl bushing sizing die.i decided to load up the brass just the way they came. So burning Re#26 Sierra manual load recommendations. 150 gr Sierra MK bullet barrel has a 7" twist. At 100 yards my groups averaged 5" 5 shot groups ! Have I bought a " Pig in the poke " ? Along side on same bench set up I was getting typical accuracy out of my WBY MK V 257 Bee 3/4moa. Been shooting all my life ! What could be the problem ?

My guess is something is loose or scope related.

It could be I'm about to go sight in my new X Bolt Max Long Range and posts like this make me nervous.

The one time my rifle shot like that was the scope rings weren't torqued correctly and the scope was moving on me.

Even a total piece of junk will shoot better than 5moa if properly set up.
My guess is the problem can be found in rings, mounts or optics. These things can easily account for a 5moa group if loose enough. If the rings and mounts appear tight enough, swap out the scope and test again.

Its the style of bullet I was shooting and too much neck tension . Now I have the correct neck bushing and will feed it hornady ELD's . That specific sierra 150 gr MK has a secant ogive profile,I seated bullets to magazine length when they needed to be seated farther out and single fed .

If the change you are proposing will bring a 5" (100yd) group down to an average 1" group I'll be very surprised. I hope you're right - good luck.

Or other thought is seating stem might be messing with your seating depth if it's not a VLD stem? Or, with the extra neck tension, maybe bullets are getting damaged? Also related to non VLD stem. Those 150's are long and pointy.

ill be loading for a 28 Nosler Max Long Range. Just remembered I bought the VLD stem for my Redding dies.

I would bring a extra scope if you have one. Any time I've had that much trouble with group size, it's been scope or loose base related.

From personnel experience a scope problem will drive you nuts. I replaced suspect scope and problem went away so did the heavy bull fold. Happy camper now.

As others have said; also check guard screw torque. If every thing is tight as it should be, my guess is a bedding problem.

Wellll... my 6.5 PRC X-Bolt Pro (24" barrel) put 3 shots into 7/8" at 200 yards and the next 3 shot, 200 yard group was 3/4" (moved my horizontal turret B/C I was just sighting in my scope.)

So I'd say it is something besides the rifle. You nave not bought "a pig in a poke".

What bullet were you shooting ? I think there was too big of a jump for the 150gr Sierra MK . Next up I'll shoot Hornady 140gr ELD's
