Some days things go well and some days things go "well sh!t". I recently had one of the second kind while trying to remove the brake on an old Saturn custom. I did not want to put the barrel in my good barrel vise as it tends to mark the barrel somewhat and I wasn't re-finishing this one, so I put it in my bench vise with the plastic inserts I use on my AR barrels. Naturally I was too lazy to remove the brand new, recently installed scope from the action and naturally the plastic inserts picked this time to break, dropping the whole shebang down onto the concrete. The first thing to hit was the eyepiece driving it cattywampus on the threads. &%*#$@*!
My friend was waiting for this rifle so I tried to find a replacement 3.5-10x44 Conquest only to find they were discontinued and an exact replacement with #20 reticle was hard to come by. Also sent the old one off to be repaired at my expense thinking I would just keep it when it came back as I always seem to need a good scope. A replacement was eventually found and installed and everybody was happy........everybody but me that is as I still hadn't heard from Zeiss (3 weeks). Finally got ahold of the repair department only to be told by the very helpful gal that seeing as how that model was discontinued they no longer repaired it. I was told my options were to replace it with a 4-12x50 terra with the reticle of my choice. The surprise came at the cost...........absolutely zero, including shipping "because we can't repair yours"
The scope arrived today, and while it's not a Conquest it's very clear and I think the rz8 reticle will work perfectly in my new 6.5-284 build. I have not used Zeiss in the past but I think they just won themselves a new customer for my lighter rifles.
