Bought a new rifle, definitely not for long range….

I'm having a Blast, shooting my New ( Pawn shop Buy ) mod. 30 AS, Marlin .30-30 with, a 2 x 7 Burris scope ( my in the Timber, N. Idaho, Whitetail rifle )
So far I've been testing, 150 gr. Sierra F N with, IMR 3031 and getting Nice MOA ish, 100 Yd group's with, MILD Recoil !
Gonna mostly, "Plink" 10" Steel plates for Fun at, 250 or, less yards until, next Fall.
I had a Marlin, 1895 in .45-70 but Recoil, off the Bench was, a Bit much for FUN shooting with my Hot, 350 grain, Bear / Elk Loads !
Lever Rifles, can Be, a Blast to shoot !
I "thought about", the .44 Mag. Cart, in a Lever, But the old, .30-30 out performs it on, Deer @ MUCH Further,.. out ( still NOT, Long range, tho ! )

Fun rifles ! I have the Rossi in 454 Casull. With handloads the 240 Hornady xtp was 2135 fps velocity and the 300 xtp was1925 fps. Out of my pistol the same loads are 1667 and 1558. The 300 grain load is knocking right on the door of what a 45-70 will do with a 300. The rossi is a light rifle and the recoil is quite noticeable.

Boy I don't know, I'm getting 2150 fps with a 325 gr FTX hand loads out of my guide model Marlin with 18" barrel.
Another often over looked round is one of my Brothers favorite is the 444 Marlin lever Gun. However, I don't know of any hand guns chambered for the 444.

MRVmax,
That is a cool looking lever gun!

Hey Idaho lefty what area of N. IDAHO are you? I am near Rathdrum and I also have a compact fixed 4 power on my 45-70.
All my buddy's siad that I ruined it buy putting the scope on it but it sure didn't stop them from wanting g to barrow when going out after Black Bear, especially if one of the younger kids (grand kids now) are along. Much easier to define where to aim on a solid black or brown target!

@ Flatbow,. I live in Southern Idaho, but my Pioneer/ Off grid, Daughter just bought, 10 acres backed up to, Nat; Forest land about, 30 or so Miles south of, Canada ( Haven't been there,. Yet ). It's a pretty heavily Timbered area with, a Few Meadows.
I hope to help plant, a Food Plot on their Land this Summer ( some Whitetails are already, there ! ).
Yup,. Low to medium Power Scopes,.. ARE, Nice ! ( I Had, a Burris 2 x 7 Laying around from, a previous Rifle and it works Great on, this .30-30 )

I do a far amount of hunting up there.
Sounds like she has a great little place with the meadows and all and backed up to national. There are some real good Wt. Tails through that area especially if you can get away from some of the other hunters. Also good Black Bear hunting as in that unit (1) there is no baiting or hound hunting allowed due mostly to possible Grizzly encounters. (Heads up on that).
Spotty Elk population but can be good if you can find them.
