Boots for caribou hunting across muskeg

Biggest considerations are temperature, and how wet the bogs are. In a wet year, even knee high boots are not tall enough to stop water shipping over the tops. In those cases we use stocking foot 5mm neoprene hip waders with quality, non-insulated, calf high boots for ankle support. Make sure you buy the boots with the waders on to ensure proper fit. Neoprene waders are very warm and easily make up for the lack of insulation. Once it freezes over, add an extra pair of good, thick, wool socks and those same boots will work just fine. Un-insulated boots are far easier to dry out than insulated ones.

I know what I won't recommend, the 1000 G oboz boots bought last year. They were impressive out of the box but they started dissolving about 700 yd into the first walk. Finish the week with some hanging twine and zip ties. Have not insulated Scarpas that I really love someday I'll find a warmer version of it without having to pay the Scarpa price...
