Just need to buy 2 barrels at the same time, lol.

I had a 22-284 a few years ago. Myself and a friend built them at the same time. Ours had 1-8" twist Brux and we shot 80 gr Berger's I believe. Velocity was in the 35-3600 fps range. Another local guy and his brother built two as well, but with 1-7" twist barrels. They shot good, but the 1-7" was exploding bullets. But with some very good copper bullets out now I'd probably go with the 1-7". But a 1-8 if shooting lead.
I sold mine but my buddy still has his. I've been tempted to buy some copper bullets in the 60-70 gr range and see if we can get 4000 fps. I think it's possible.

Going up in case capacity beyond 220 Swift/22 Creedmoor doesn't make much sense. The highest velocity shown above with the 75 gr Amax in the 22-284 was 3500 fps. I can do that and even a bit more with the 100 gr ELD-VT in a 6.5 SAUM. BC is about the same but the 6.5 SAUM would, I think, have more barrel life.
The really high capacity cases in any caliber only make sense to me shooting the heaviest highest BC bullets.

It seems to me that there was a thread while back about trying to reach 5000 ft./s. It seems to me that this oughta be included in the thread. I am not sure how to do it. But I'll take a look, and see if I can figure it out. If anyone knows how to do it, please do so.Here's a great read on the .22-284 but as you note it only goes up to 75 grain bullets. Fella named Bruce Potts built one and shared his findings with those who'd be interested.

I'm really planning to see how fast we can go in the not distant future here as well. Have a barrel I won on auction that appears to be unfired (and it is uncrowned as well to further bolster the theory) , a 32 inch 8 twist .257" cal bartlein presently chambered in .25-06 Ackley improved. I also have some 75 grain hammer hunters and 90 grain absolute hammers, as well as planning to pick up some 134 grain hornady eld M.
Will see how fast the 25-06 ai can drive the 75 hammer out of a 32 inch pipe first. A .257 weatherby I used to have hit 4170 fps out of a 24 inch. The 25-06 ai is nearly the same capacity as the weatherby and in many ways a better case design and this chamber isn't running any weatherby type freebore, I have zero doubt that a 32 inch 25-06 Ackley will absolutely stomp a 24 inch 257 weatherby for velocity. Will also have fun seeing what those 134s can do. The barrel is already threaded for savage actions, I have a savage 110 long action kickin around that'd be just perfect for this experimental build.
BUT, when ive had my fun with the 25-06 ai and learned what i want to learn, i still plan to rechamber it to a 25-300 weatherby and just FLOOR IT! for the brief remaining life of that barrel haha. I do doubt it will hit 5000 fps, and yet…the thought keeps me up at night. If a 24 inch barreled 257wby with norma brass hits 4170 before showing pressure signs, I do wonder how close to 5K we could get with another 8 inches of barrel and the extra case capacity, using some Peterson brass.
I know full well that it's not like Peterson or LAPUA brass somehow magically reduce chamber pressure but just hide it better….thats fine
