The basic problems with most of these cartridges is either the OAL of the loaded round or the diameter of the case , or they're rimmed. Hence, the reason they're chambered in single shot rifles. The .458 Win, Jeffery, or .458 Lott will easily go in a commercial Mauser '98. A military '98 can be used with alterations, but most who will do this type of work will want to have the action re-carbonized. Recently, one of the most popular companies who did this type of work announced they will no longer be (doing this). To reiterate, Mauser conversions are no bargain!
