Best SA Receiver and Why???

Looking to build a SA in 6.5 caliber and want to know your thoughts on what action is best for the job? It will be a hunting/range steel banger. I would appreciate any info to be factual and not just because I like this... Pro's vs Con's etc .. Budget is 1400 and I want the action melonited or DLC of some sort.. Thanks in advance

I have Defiance actions and they are in the upper tier in my opinion. They are smooth and most important machined to the tightest tolerances. No need to worry about if they are machined straight or not.

With $1400 as a budget then I'd say defiance all day! I have a couple different custom actions and the defiance actions are definitely built extremely well and they have quite a few models with different options depending on the features your after. Only con I'd say is price but if your budget is $1400 then you are good to go

So, I own two defiance and 1 Kelbly. Two Remington trued.. I like them all for different reasons.
I was just wondering if there is a action that is above all the others? More reliable, better ejector system, held to tighter specs etc.. Seems to be so many hard to distinguish nowadays.

Not sure you can really go wrong with any of the custom actions. I want to build a tikka because I don't have a $1400 action budget but they don't have different lengths just like many of the manufacturers.

No price restriction you can't beat Bordin. For what you get for your money you can't beat the Gunwerx GRB.

So, what sets the Borden apart Shep? I haven't owned one but, just curious? More or better ejectors? Smoother? Works better in harsh conditions getting dirty? More PRC shooters use them????? Trying to discern...

I've been using Defiance and Lone Peak actions for most of my recent builds and both are solid. I've been favoring Lone Peak as of late because their lead times are significantly lower (in most cases). I wanted an anTi action from Defiance for a new build and was quoted a 6 month lead time this past week.

I think they are the straightest and true action you can get. I've talked with other Smith's about this and they agreed also. The Bordin bumps makes the bolt lock up nice and tight. No slop at all. The trigger timing is right. If you get a trigger with it he will time it perfect for you. The fit and finish is great. They do need to break in on the bolt travel when you get one. They slide a little sticky at first. But they smooth up real nice pretty fast.

For a severe duty rifle I would not recommend Bordin or Bat. The fit is too good.

I watched a video about some guys hunting out in the desert and the defiance was having a hard time cycling the bolt after getting really dirty and dusty, but the ole Remington was doing fine.. So my take away was, that for hunting some of the really tight tolerance actions may not be the best … They would be really good for target and competition but maybe not for in the field so much...??
