I'm shooting a 30-06 at 550yds with aI'm new to FFP scopes and on a budget so would like to ask your opinions on what has the best quality for the buck. thanks
I agree. I'm using the non illuminated scope and have no problems shooting to 550 yds.Everyone will jump on me for this one....but aside from the less expensive Burris, Leupold, and Vortex...I've had good luck with Primary Arms 4-14 FFP illuminated scopes. Yep, made in China. For a super entry level price, you get a LOT of features. I've had the super $$ scopes (Nighforce), and ya know, on my 6.5 x .284, it's honestly not half bad. It tracks well, illumination is good, glass is what I'd call mid range. Burris and Leupold are better. I guess it depends on your budget. From now on, I cap my budget at $700'ish. After laying primo dinero on scopes that I only use for hunting a couple of times a year with target reticles that I can't even see when dialed up....I'm going back to Spam budget, and enjoying more ammo. Thanks for the fella that mentioned the Atholon, I've been been very curious about those, and absolutely agree on the Meopta, great glass!!!
Well I'm going to push the Vortex line since I'm retired military you get 40% off all vortex products! I own many brands but with the Vortex discount and lifetime no question ask warranty you cannot beat it!I'm new to FFP scopes and on a budget so would like to ask your opinions on what has the best quality for the buck. thanks
Bushnell has always done right by me
SWFA or the BushnellA few requirements after some thought: No batteries please. I tend to like stronger, simpler designs for reliability. Also, turret footprint is important. I have seen some pretty tall turrets out there and it would be prohibitive for my hunting, which is pretty much all around plains to mountains and a long range max of 800 yards. Thanks again for all the great suggestions.
You have a ton of suggestions on optics. But if you know someone at Burris I think I would go that route and go with either the Varacity or XTR and outfit it with there mounts and ringsI'm new to FFP scopes and on a budget so would like to ask your opinions on what has the best quality for the buck. thanks
I'll 2nd or 4th this comment. I have 4 of themI really like my vortex PST gen 2. Great turrets, easy reticle, pretty good glass. I dont seem to have any real light scattering issues I get with other scopes. I have an athlon ares as well and its not usable at dawn or dusk but has a good picture during the day.
That is a lot of magnification for a hunting scope I've been down that road and to me it not worth the extra weight and shear size of it. I now keep my big game scopes at 14 power upper end I do have a 4-16 Nikon on a 264 win magJumping on this thread- I just got a savage LRH in 300 Win Mag. Trying to get a budget scope under $500 that would be good for up to 400 yards. I hear a lot about the scope below. Any other recommendations? Amazon has it for $320.
Athlon Optics , Argos BTR, Riflescope, 6-24 x 50 First Focal Plane.
I won one of those on a range day competition. As a Leupold guy I was hesitant to use it. But ended up putting it on my 300wsm long range unit. So far it has worked very well. Not quite as clear as Leupold but very good to 1000 yards. Have about 500 rounds down range with it and it has not had any issues holding zero. If you are on a budget this is the one that I recommend. Just my 2 cents.Jumping on this thread- I just got a savage LRH in 300 Win Mag.
