Leupold VX-3HD 2.5-8 is going to be hard to beat
Your post reminds me of when I started my boys shooting/hunting with a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser 26 years ago. I went with Leupold Vari-XI, IIRC, for its forgiving eye relief.Looking for a mid level scope with the most forgiving eye box for a youth rifle. Thinking a simple 3-9x40 or even a 2-7x32 or something similar. This is not a long range rifle just a youth 7-08. Anyway just wondering what's out there? I wanted a forgiving eye box to make it easier for the kid to get in behind the scope comfortably.
Recommendations? Thanks all
That scope already caught my eye. It's in the short list. Kiddo is turning 9 this year and has taken a keen interest in hunting.Your post reminds me of when I started my boys shooting/hunting with a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser 26 years ago. I went with Leupold Vari-XI, IIRC, for its forgiving eye relief.
For your consideration -the Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 Hunt-Plex (https://www.leupold.com/vx-freedom-3-9x40-hunt-plex) with an MSRP of <$300, the eye relief is 4.2" at the low mag and 3.7" at high mag. Good luck, and thanks for passing on the tradition.
