Best copper or bronze mono-metal bullet for expansion?

As others have noted, you need to figure out the type of bullet you need/want - mushrooms (remains intact), sheds petals on impact, sheds petals above a set velocity on impact, or fragmenting bullet (Titan and DRT are the only ones I know that makes this type of bullet). @JAYgs8163 brought up a good point: find the bullet maker that makes the bullet weight you want and go from there. I have compiled a list of lead-free bullet manufacturers (some you cannot get here in the US) throughout the years, but I have not updated it in the last year. Good luck!

Yea, way over complicating things.
I'd find an accurate load using a 168 - 180 TTSX and go kill stuff.

This…..though personally, I'd be looking at the Barnes LRX in a 175 or 190 grain! The LRX's are supposed to expand more readily than the TTSX's…..I haven't been able to verify that yet! memtb

Gday let's get my mate memtb out the road first
He's fixated in his views/ thoughts while very sound on his choices & for good reason

I just thought he needed to be put on point as I've not given up on him yet

Just thought I'd yank his chain a little more & fun we have with ea other & that's all this post is really about I'll pass my thoughts on in my next post
Cheers

Gday arken7mm my position on that heavy of a mono you are handicapping yourself on the level of killing efficiency as on the whole monos love speed yet I was recently surprised by how good apex was @ very low impacts especially on very minimal resistance & no the hammer DB doesn't give the greatest expansion & more on that in a minute but take @least 20% off those weights you listed & I wouldn't be concerned with 30% on most applications

Fruinut & docmark ( in ceb some are better styles than others eg raptor opens better than maximus ) have honed in on the best pills I've tested for working or extremely close to it as stated by the company on minimum working impact velocities ( & more on that in a minute)
On the list that Feenix supplied I've not tested all of those & some I've never heard of but a fair few of them I have & some others , some no longer around ( I think I'm over 20 different mono companies now 🤷‍♂️ ) @FEENIX atomic 29 I didn't see on your list it's a fairly new Aussie company that are making some nice pills which are mushroom monos

Anyway Now let's get into these minimum workings
If we take every companies word please be careful is my word of advice on that but it depends also on what resistance we impacting if the pill will work or not

What I mean by that is when the pill impacts if you hit the shoulder meat for example this offers more resistance than a in the rib chest shot now if that impact was on a rib it's a higher resistance than a between the ribs & this also depends on hide thickness & toughness

so if you are impacting @ sub 2000 levels ( not the subsonic pills i don't deal with those velocities anymore regardless of pill brand ) you would be advised to hit those shoulders with monos & then some really don't work that well until 2400 & then between rib shots can still leave a bit to be desired for killing efficiency

The next part is expansion & by expansion I guess you mean1.7 & then 2xcalibre or 2.2etc
For which now you only have the mushroom monos to work with imo as the shedding mono is a different beast & kills differently
So if it's expansion as I understand you mean it the apex & ceb are out as these are shedding but low velocities are one I'd avoid with mushroom monos but best I'd seen was the hp copper rose by McGuire but it's bc maybe a issue for you 🤷‍♂️

But if one gets into the killing efficiency part regardless of style of mono the shedding pills have shown to be more forgiving/ better over a wider velocity impact range ( window ) than a mushroom mono
Not saying some mushroom monos can't kill well some do extremely well but the window they do it in is somewhat smaller than the good shedding pills as some real poor ones in that style also but if your like memtb who uses a mushroom mono pill in it's good window all will be fine

So now you need to sort out your ranges & then apply those on a velocity chart to see what your range of operating velocity impacts would be & then match the pill that best suits your application

That's the hard part as every company has the best & what maybe memtb best may not be yours or mine

So when asking for recommendations ask on your specifics of type of critters ( as you did ) velocity impact & pictures I like & ask how far it ran or time to tip but videos are better but the hard part of all that is we seem to only see the better ones 😜

Sorry I rambled a bit & hope it made sense & overall Jm2cw

Cheers

I got the 214 Hammer Hunter to 3143 FPS in my 27" RUM with N570.

Had the 3.85" box and it still was pushed waaaay down in the case. I would look for a little lighter so you can push them faster.

181s 3335 FPS is pretty good.

I can't deny that I'm "narrow", some might even suggest "closed minded"!

I did fail to mention that my chosen "pill" 😉 works pretty well within it's velocity range. Of course, that can be said of any bullet…..whether a cup & core or more specialized mono's.

Where I often, and might I add spectacularly fail, is to realize that I probably rely to much upon larger cubic inches add to it's "lethality factor! I just brain-stormed that @fordy …..feel free to use it, if it's of any value! The majority of my experience comes from my wife and I using mono's that even when marginally expanded create a larger wound channel that those "pills" of substantially less diameter. I also tend to lean heavily toward greater mass or sectional density providing greater penetration when heavy bone or large quantities of wet, packed grasses are between the "pill" and the organs I wish to destroy! I've been known to, and do not hesitate to take a steeply angled shot…..even the much maligned "Texas Heartshot"! "IF" I want something to rapidly expire…..I'll use whatever means necessary! 😜

That said, I've seen pretty good performance from my chosen mono's when used in small calibers…..such as the 270 Winchester! 😉 memtb

Your " brain stormed "is basically why I have trouble pulling you apart On your choices
Yes "lethality factor " is covering bases in my world even when things go bad with your pill of choice it kills

To give you a great example on that on my last lot of bovine tests I did on a cull
Had numerous 6.5 pencils ( multiple brands ) & unless the pill itself tumbled the killing efficiency was extremely poor moved to the 375 cal ( 1 brand ) & when it penciled killing efficiency was still poor imo but a hell of a lot better & id have to look up specific times but it's a lot
Now the 6.5 tumbling pills sometimes killed fairly well but erratic it was & eventually was the same as I've observed numerous times before & that is a tumbling pill will let you down more than a pill that works as designed
Really another subject for another day but a interesting one none the less

Keep on your " narrow minded" view 🤣as it gives us all a reality check of the basics of killing efficiency to cover those bases

Cheers
