Best cleaners

I used to use C4 untill I tried Sharp Shooter R carb out, let it soak for about 10 minutes then use a brush for about 10 strokes and depending on how bad the carbon is repeat if necessary. Pro Shot copper remover has worked great for me on copper the 4years over been using it and it doesnt stink.
All this being said only way to know for sure is using a bore scope to see what's going on in a barrel with your cleaning regiment.

I'm not too worried about bore damage right now, it was shooting 3/4" groups at best with handloads. I haven't let it soak in butch's overnight yet but I may tonight. Thanks for the help I may have to send it out and have a 25 sst tube fitted to it. I think I'm subconsciously looking for reasons to but I've never seen a barrel this dirty!!! Think the ammonia based butch's will etch the steel at all if it can even find it?

Butches seems to have less ammonia in it than sweets. Everyone says that it may etch metal, but I know it takes 50+ years for steel to degrade with ammonia in it constantly. I wouldn't be to concerned about it at this point.

Boretech is good stuff. You can Lea it in over night. I also have had good luck with wipeout. Foam up the barrel let it sit over night patch it out in the morning foam it up again and patch it out that evening and even badly fouled barrels are clean

Wipe Out. Leave over night, patch, do it again until clean. I find that stuff to be amazing. I've used it on a few old rifles that seemed hopeless

Kg1 for carbon
KG 12 for copper

both are incredible. You can plug a barrel and fill it with KG12for a day or two. Eats Barnes bullets. No effect on steel.

Without seeing inside...no way to know what you're finding...
The ring you are talking about may have been a wasp nest...
But if it is a bad as you say....i would take a fibre brush loaded with JB bore paste and a drill and spin that sucker for as long as you can go..up and down the barrel.....clean the barrel itself...then go after the rifling....
Might be just the ticket.....

Wipe Out/Patch Out works for me. Use the Accelerator with it if you are in a hurry, but just letting it work overnight really does a good job if applied with a nylon bore brush. You can use the foam too, no need for the nylon brush.

I'm not smart just OCD about cleaning.
No reason to use sweet's or the oil lung burners anymore.
Bore Tech general cleaner is awesome, get's a little messy but when I have a stubborn ugly mess of a bore, It's the stuff.
Wipe-out or the other foamy stuff is AWESOME and easy for light fouler's or daily post shooting sessions. My go to.
Hoppe's makes a couple spray thngs, one is non-toxic and it's pretty darn good, not aggressive but again for light fouling weapons, like my Bartlein's, good stuff.
KG-12 copper remover. When it absolutely, positively, has to be removed in 5 swipes. I've never seen anythingt like it. Have 5 or 6 heavy copper fouler's, and 5-10 swipes of a patch wrapped around an aluminum nylon brush and it' like a magic freaking wand. If you can find it, by two. The carbon stuff works good, all their stuff does, it's just a process and I'd rather squirt foam, wait 10 minutes, scrub and rinse.
I gave away a big box of cleaners to my range after I tried EVERYTHING. In your shop you only need wipe out, bore tech all-purpose or whatever, and KG-12 for your copper stripper. Cleaning will be fun again. C

Edit: Almost every bore I clean end's with a few swipes of KG copper cleaner. It makes me feel good.

I don't think I it was a wasp nest, I shot 5-6 3 shot groups out of it before I gave up. Whatever was causing the brush to hiccup is gone now but whatever it was was nasty! Felt like the brush was going thru 2 smaller diameter o rings. Maybe day 5 will be the ticket! I just can't fathom patches coming out like black powder patches after cleaning a muzzleloader!

I've had good luck with BoreTech but since going over to KG-1 (carbon) and KG-12 (copper) my borescope tells me it works faster and more thoroughly.

I've tackled a few guns like this. All old guns from people who don't think they need to clean or maintain a gun.

Mostly used Sweets 7.62 for copper and Hoppes for powder. Not the quickest or easiest.

I've moved to the wipe out or patch out products. JBs is pretty sweet for getting out stubborn spots or cleaning out pitting or other defects for inspection. With the amount of time you have spent with solvents, get some JB's and run that through a few times. It knocks copper fouling and carbon rings down pretty quick.
