Best AR15 Coyote cartridge?

How do you like the terminal performance of the 80gr eld-vt?
Not as fur friendly as the old 40gr vMax but puts dogs down hard. Wasn't overly rough on the fur though. 6mm entrance hole exit is as about the size of a half dollar. I'll be sticking with them for my varmint bullet.

5.56/.223 in an AR platform for me.

My AR pistol is my truck gun.
11" pushing a 50gr V-Max @ 2920fps. About a 350yd max coyote round. Short, fast, quick swinging. NF NX8 1-8×24 and a Holosun 507.

My 24" AR Varminter pushes the same load 3300fps.
You know Lance when you keep showing off rigs like this I really, really, hate you lol. I think I'm gonna have to build a "poors" version of this. Maybe with an AB A-10 direct thread. Sweet rig brother.

Hopefully this gets some traffic....

My thermal rig is a 25-06 flinging 80gr ttsx at 3650fps. It is hold on hair out to 300yds and does a fantastic job at killing things the bullet comes in contact with.

But its long and heavy and follow up shots are not as easy as just squeezing the trigger again. It's unsupressed and considerably louder than my hunting partners 16" 223rem. I don't mind the noise but I'd assume other coyotes would.

So my question is...
What are yall using as far as cartridge, bullet and barrel length in the AR15 platform for coyotes? Specs and velocity numbers are much appreciated!!!

I'm a big believer in "speed kills" especially in the sub 300yd range. Factory ammo is a plus but not a requirement as long as good brass is available. I don't want anything thats so "boutique" that I need to run a brass catcher.

I've been looking at....
204rug
20practical
223rem with a 9-10tw
224 valkyrie
22 nosler
22ARC
6ARC
25x45 Sharp's

What have yall tried and didn't like?
What is currently working for yall?
I too, use the Barnes 80gr ttsx in 2506 at 3800fps (24" barrels w/R19) it truly is "hold on hair"out to 300yds.
Just stick with 223 in an AR15…the reason is simply bullet speed. You're used to fast and flat stick with it….the platform runs on it…check out some 50 - 53 gr loads…
Calculating bullet trajectories in the field with exotic cartridges especially with coyotes …ah no…call in 3 coyotes..1st shot at 60yds…2nd at 120yds….3rd at 300yds…that's dad, mommy and junior ….on a good day.

I've had great luck with 6.5 Grendel and 95 grain v-max at about 2800. Killed piles of coyotes, and as far as I can remember only had a couple that needed any follow up, and those were shot placement issues. Typically, it drops them in their tracks, and is not fur friendly. I've also got some factory eld-vts that shoot exact same poi as the 95 grains, just a little slower (2725). Haven't tried them on coyotes yet, but they work great on pigs. I've heard they don't expand as well on coyotes as the v-max, but we will see the next couple of months.

Buddy and I are both using 16" 223's on a suppressed AR platform. We're both shooting 53gn V-Max's @ 3100fps. I use H335, he uses Ramshot Tac. We're both using 6" Ti suppressors, he's using a TBAC Dominus CB and I've got a Scythe Ti. That keeps the overall bbl length you've got to manage to ~22".

If you reload I would get something based off the 6.8 SPC case or even a 6x45. The reason I say that is I've broke 2 bolts with my Grendel so I don't use either of my Grendels or 6 ARC much anymore. 1 of the bolts was a JP. Oh that's not counting the extractor I broke to begin with. I guess I'm just unlucky somehow since they supposedly fixed that issue. 😕

I like the 223 with a 16.5 " to a 20" slower twist barrel for running 55 grain hollow point bullets, a Wyld chambering is fine just run a slow twist rate and 55 or lighter bullets works good for me. My personal choice is the 55 grain Sierra HPBT game king bullet for the 223.
