Let's dig this old thread out of the basement. My 7mm WSM should be done this month. I've got H1000 amd 175 ABLR's so far. Anyone tried the new IMR7977? I'm also interested in Retumbo, as I understand it may be a tad faster? I'm built on a long action Remington so I should be able to seat them out as far as I want. Any new concoctions out there for long range deer and elk? I've read the article on 6mmbr...
I don't have any H4350, but I do have a bunch of IMR 4350, I could try that. I've read that 4350 just doesn't have the snort to push big bullets, but works great with 168's.
Anyone try RL22?? I've had my best accuracy and velocity with this powder. Hit a nice Colo bull elk about 3 years ago with this powder and a 154 Interbond at 573 yds. Rifle is a Winchester Model 70 Shadow with a NOS laminate stock and PTD Obermeyer bottom metal. No bedding, but it shoots wonderful and consistent.
I will be taking this combo to Colorado again in October. : )
I load my 7wsm with 64.2 grains of Reloder 26, 180 Berger Hunting VLD and BR2 primers. I load them with .005 jump. They fly at 2900 fps, which I think is a little slow, but I only have a 24" barrel. If I was to build this gun again it would have a lighter profile and a 26" tube.
Reloder 26 will push the bullets a lot faster. My gun was just more accurate with that load. I tried 26 with the 168 Bergers. I could push them to 3300 without pressure, but the accuracy just wasn't there. I feel in the right gun, 3050 with 180's is certainly possible.
