Best 1400m short action round

6.5 PRC as bballard said or if a smaller case allowed, the 6 ARC. The 6 ARC steps out right at 243 ballistics. I still in its infancy with my build but looks promising.

Can't use the 284 Win un that Contest... To big😅
Unless they are also limiting case capacity, the 284 case works just fine in SA with a 308 bolt face. 6.5-284 would also be a great choice. I wouldn't think a 308 would do well at 1400m?
If I recall correctly, the 6.5x47 Lapua was designed for the 600-800m competitions, it also has plenty of power to get to 1400m.
You are correct, just a tad short of the Creed, but a better case design IMHO. The only reason the Creed is so popular is Hornady's marketing ability. You don't see them winning matches often.

I've got no dog in this fight but the 260AI sounds like it's fits the bill. I'd want a little more than 6mm going that far.

Someone else suggested the 277 fury. I'd be tempted to try it just to be different. The hybrid cases are available from time to time at American reloading. I use them for 308. One pass through a 308 die and they're good to go. I'm sure you could make 260's out of them also.

It's an 80k psi case. Load it hard and drive the snot out of it.
My thought on the fury is its 308 bolt face, short action and will outrun everything else limited to short action. Theres good enough bullets in 270 now to just run it as is but up to 7mm or down to 6.5 is easy enough. For targets I'd go down to 6.5.

IT won't be a New built soon but IT going to be maybe next winter. Il Do like to plan a head.

One off the top 5 was shooting 308 Win but IT not optimal.

another vote for the 284win

I have a similar match near me that has shots from 300-1,000yd and Ive decided with those parameters, the 284win with a high BC heavy 7mm would give the best advantage at long range.

The 180eldM or similar weight Berger would trump any other bullet in a smaller caliber for bucking wind out at 1400m

Peterson is making brass or you can buy Norma 6.5x284 and neck it up. Thinking hard about this myself

If you can base off of a the .284 case then I'd build a wildcat. Basically a .260 AI, only use the .284 case as the starting point.
It probably already exists, I've just no idea what it is called.
