Been thinking about the .325 WSM

I've had a browning xbolt hunter in 325wsm for about 10 years and taken a lot of game with it. It Isn't my main hunting rifle any more but I take it out every year before rifle season. Shoot 6 or so rounds through it and put it back in the safe and I always know it will be there and up to the task if my main rifle has problems during season.

I just like the odd balls. I pre-ordered that rifle in 2004-2005 whenever they came out. I got some odd looks in my friends shop when I picked it up. I never found the recoil to be bad at all. I honestly thought it was less than my Uncles synthetic stock 300 WSM

I like odd balls too. My first rifle was a .270 Win. not an odd ball but it gets beat up by a lot of people, but it keeps on going and gets the job done. The 35 Whelen has be come a favorite and it shoots farther and flatter and is a much more versatile cartridge then it gets credit for. I have all so be enjoying my 400 Whelen. If you liked your .325WSM you sold and it is a cartridge that really gets you excited, GO FOR IT and have fun, it's all for your enjoyment on one else.

I can't find anywhere on the net, where someone has built a custom .325. I'm sure it's out there, but I haven't found it yet.

I'm thinking if you had the throat cut deeper, and used a 28" barrel, it would put it in a whole different class. Use a large load of slow powder. I got my best results with H4350, but with 4 more inches of barrel, I think you could use RL22 or 23. Should be able to get 3150 out of a 200 Accubond.

I too like to go against the crowds. That's why I like the Ruger Paddle stocks, and weird calibers.



I like the little 6.5 and 350 RM's. They are too often forgotten. A fella sent me a wildcat cartridge he made from the 6.5. It's a 6mm-6.5RM

You are very correct my friend and to my way thinking as well, I brought one of the first Model 700 BDL's in 6.5 Rem Mag in the late '60s could have been 1970 anyway the cartridge was way ahead of its time as was the .350 Rem Mag the downside was Remington brought them out in their cool little carbine which I think was a mistake on Remington parts, but a lot of water gone under the bridge since then, never the less two fanatic cartridge. I'm thinking if you had the throat cut deeper, and used a 28" barrel, it would put it in a whole different class. Use a large load of slow powder. I got my best results with H4350, but with 4 more inches of barrel, I think you could use RL22 or 23. Should be able to get 3150 out of a 200 Accubond.

I would go with a 26" barrel. Just need to sell these three acres to generate some more spending money.

I wish Hornady would release a 230-235 grain ELD-X in .323". Then maybe an ELD-M, A-Tip, and A-Max. Get the paper punchers looking too. Turn this oddball caliber into something cool !

I've started a few wildcats, but I have serious shooter's A.D.D. and get sidetracked. I started an 8mm on the .300 WM case. You can see it here. Left to right: .325 WSM, 8-300WM, 8mm PRC (forget the name the fella called it), and 8mm RM.

I'll ask my friend his name for the 8mm PRC, he has already had dies and reamers made. I'll get his performance too.

My 8mm STM (8-300wm) was supposed to push a 220 to 2950, and the 200 to 3050-3075.

Its the 8mm bullets that are the limiting factor for this round. I had one for a few years and sold it because I never shot it enough. Mine kicked like a mule. If you are looking for a thumper under 500 yards, the 325 wsm fits the bill.

I really enjoy the 325 wsm. Had a browning a bolt that loves 180 gr barns tsx that I packed to South Africa, Namibia, BC and killed a very nice grizzly in Alaska last spring. My guide from that hunt is packing it now as I'm having Straight Jacket Armory build one that will switch out with my 6.5 prc. Only problem is factory ammo is very hard to find. But it is a thumper.
