I have a friend who wants me to bed a rifle that he just acquired that has a carbon fiber barrel.

I am used to bed steel barrels but have some concerns about this expensive carbon fiber barrel

Normally I apply a release agent (clear shoe wax), tape off the stock, fill all the voids, mix the epoxy and set the stock.

(I am leaving out a lot of details to get to the barrel)

I am concerned about getting epoxy on the barrel and cleaning it off as part of the mess of bedding. Am I going to damage the barrel finish with any of the clean up solvents?

Is there anything I need to know to do differently with this barrel?

Appreciate any advice

Thanks

I'm assuming the stock isn't stiff enough to stay off the barrel, the best is like weiserbucks said add a layer of tape or add 2 layers to insure the barrel is free floated

Mask the carbon and procede as usual.

You're going to get enough bedding around the action screw and stainless portion of the barrel.
