Bear country pistol

Surely a fellow can find some place on God's green earth where you can go fishing where there aren't ANY bears? If I have to pack a pistol or a shotgun or both to go fishing, lol I'm out... I fish a lot in the Caribbean, had more good days than bad days for sure! And I never saw a bear...
I have had some run ins with small flying bugs ...brutal...
If they show up there the climate change crap has gotten out of hand.

I wonder how many bear pistol threads there are ? 😉
Last Oct. a griz was on my deer carcass from week before. Buddy and I watched him cover it from 240 yds. where we were sitting. About half hour later he walked off and went down canyon out of sight. About half hour later he's walking down the ridge towards us. I was videoing and taking pics on phone. When he was 24 yds. I set phone down. I had my Springfield XDM 10mm in right hand and bear spray in left. Buddy had his pistol out and video on phone going so we had proof if we had to shoot. I usually carry a Glock 20 10mm. I duct tape the grip safety down on the XDM. I only carry one 15 rd. mag in pistol and one in the pipe. I use Grizzly 220 Hard cast FN. A before pic of buck and week later watched him cover carcass.
the other buck I shot 11/22 200 yds. from where I did buck in 10/23.

While back packing in the Wa Cascades I always carried a 4" S&W Mod 29 Ni in a belt holster. This was before the advent of commercially available .454 Casull. I figure double action better than single, for me. Have to rethink that with a FA 500 WE, first shot should be good. Practice visualizing your shot on the griz brain, high spinal chord.

As far as 12ga shotgun slugs for Grizzlies and Brown Bears go, what would be the best slugs for big bears?
Check out Brenneke Black Magic Magnum 12ga 3" out of my rifle barreled Ithaca model 37... it's what I use when I'm doing Alaska trips. This subject has been beaten to death on this forum more than once so if you look around here, I'm sure you'll find all the info you needed to make a good choice. Cheers.

My choice is Bear spray, bear spray , bear spray
And then back it up with a 10mm in chest rig
The 10mm offers enough penetration and more speed compared to any revolver
Pistol skills are a very fast eroding skill if not kept up.
Train with a partner and timer to track progress , timer also adds some anxiety to mix . When you realize a bear is charging you , you will feel anxiety and the adrenaline pumping will limit your fine motor control . The timer helps simulate the same effects. Getting your body used to performing during that rush will help alot.
Your buddy is the competitor and you both will try harder to beat each others time and hit factor.

Bottom line, Carry what you can hit well with (train) , and what ever gives you a piece of mind
Personally see nothing wrong with trying a non-lethal approach first...........backed up by the aforementioned deterrent....just in case!

I think it was two years ago this spring a fellow was getting an early start fly fishing here in western MT and hiking along a creek, forgive me I forget where, and stumbled upon a grizz setting on its kill. Bear murdered him. That is the worse case scenario and the one to be prepared for. It happens fast unfortunately.
Makes one want to explore the absolutely quickest way to deploy. If you come around a tight bend and he`s right there......? Wow!

I'm just laughing picturing some of you guys toting around a .375 HH on one shoulder, a pump shotgun on the other shoulder, a .500 magnum strapped to your chest, a rape whistle dangling from your neck, a can of bear spray on your left hip, and a 10mm on your right hip…all of that just to go hiking. 😂🤣. This is great! 🍿 🍿
