Bare minimum pistol / caliber you would carry on a fishing trip in Griz country?

10mm for weight. 480/454/44 wouldn't be bad options if weight isn't a factor. Or better yet a short shotgun . It's more important to consider what you can shoot well and you will have handy enough to use.

Thanks. Had a couple 44 smiths in the past that were great handguns. Still shopping.

Carry what you have. I don't care for heavy handguns. I'd rather carry a small rifle, than a large pistol.

I wouldn't feel under gunned or uncomfortable carrying my S&W 44.

If you have to have a handgun, then go with a Glock model 40 in 10MM with hard cast projectiles. Now, I hope you can hit with it on a charging bear…..most can't.

I hunt in grizz country and used to carry a S&W 44 mag but only 6 rounds scared me so now I carry a 15 round S&W 10mm semi auto with an extra mag loaded with 200 gr hard cast.
Just my opinion as I have been face to face with grizz and it is scary!

FN510 hands down. Comes with 22rd mag. If 20 or 21rds doesn't stop or alter the thought process of any bad attitude brownie, you can always use the last 1 or 2 on yourself. It's my fave 10mm for function and I have had a lot of them over the yrs

I don't hunt or fish in Grizzly country very often, but I like the idea of big bullets and first round hits. I'm not sure having over 5 or 6 rounds will come into play on a charging bear.

I used to carry a .44 Rem Mag revolver but transitioned to a Glock 40 MOS in 10MM with three 15-round magazines.

But make sure you play dead until it leaves ….had a hunter with me and he picked his head up to see if she left…she saw him and was back on top of him. He was lucky to be alive.
