Bartlein 3b at the range

Used a 3 non fluted at 25" on a 6 CM and a 3B non fluted at 23" on my 308. On M70 actions. Both hunt but are fine on the range too, with no overt over-heating issues. Both feel just right to me.

Just let Bartlien barrel it up they will do a perfect job

#3 and 3B is about all I use on everything from 22 too 338 for hunting rifle with steel barrel!

What thread are you using on the muzzle of a 338 with a Bartlein 3 or 3b?

Just curious on which xbolt you have? I have an xbolt that I'm contemplating putting a new barrel as well. Has the barrel already been taken off? I've heard getting those barrels off isn't an easy task.

Didn't ignore the first part, just didn't want to jinx it. I was pre-planning for a Stalker LR I just bought.

On my 6CM, I put a #3 26" cut back to 22". Gave me 0.70 @ muzzle. Did not flute. My 264WM is 26" 3B fluted. Both shoot well below 1/2 MOA @ 200 yds. with 5 shot strings. My 6.5 PRC is 24" #4 fluted. Also well below 1/2 MOA @ 200. Pick your weight, all worked for me.

Thanks Rick. How does it do at the range? I'm looking for something that doesn't lose much accuracy past a 5 shot string. I don't need to do 30 rounds at a time, but it's a hassle letting it cool down after a 3 shot string.

Get a good barrel cooler and don't worry about it. I agree that a #3 should get 5 good shots before POI shifts on a 6mm bore.

I have a fluted 3b on my 65 Creed that I use in NRL Hunter where we might run 8 round strings if you miss each on your first shot. I've run 30-40 rounds in pretty rapid succession with no loss in accuracy.

I'm looking to put a 6mm Bartlein barrel on my X-bolt with a Game scout stock. It will be mostly for the shooting range but I'd like it to be capable for hunting as well. I've read a lot on the different contours but it looks like the stock isn't recommended for anything larger than a 4 or 5 contour.

My question is, does anybody use a 3B for the range and if so, how bad does it heat up vs a regular hunting barrel in 2 or 3 contour?

#3B is only .030" larger diameter that a Krieger #4 contour.

For barrel coolers, SimplyCool, Riflekuhl, Barrelcool, Chamber Chiller are all good ones.
