Barrel burn out??

I have a sako 75 with the original barrel
I originally shot 165's @ about 3300FPS
I shot about 600 of this load
Switched to 190 SMKS @ 3050FPS
I shot about 600 of this load
I got the 190's to shoot lose cloverleafs @100 yrds, and even tighter @ 200
I went to the range last week it would not group like it use to. It was consistent about
1"1/2 @100. I thought bad day try again, yesterday at the range, yes still 1"1/2 groups at 100 and 2"1/2 @ 200. Barrel Burn Out???

I have heard sako's old barrels were soft but the new 75's shouldnt be. I would expect 2000rds before a 300win mag was burned--at least it sounded like a WM velocities.

I have a few questions.

Did you change the lot of the powder?

Lots of Bullets?

Were you loading near or onto the Lands? Have you checked to see if the lands have moved forward?

Are the action screws loose/tight?

Scope Rings and Base, loose or tight?

How many rounds have been fired throught the brass, is it work hardened?

Has the crown been damages?

Personally, a SAKO barrel should last longer than this...I would think there is something else going on...

How are you cleaning the rifle??

Sometimes they look clean but arent really.

It might be shot out but my personal rule is that if the barrel is still shooting acceptably then I keep it. If you can live with those groups and repeat them without getting better or worse then so be it.
