Barnes LRX 7mm 139 vs 145

I was (am) in this boat as well. I shot 140 AB's in my 280 ackley. As they became nonexistent I switched to Barnes 145 LRX. Haven't started load development yet so I hope I made the right choice over the 139's.

145s should work great, especially in the 280AI. But the rule is go lighter when switching to solids.

I shot a small whitetail doe this past season with a 145 LRX out of a 280 AI at around 3000 fps. Approximately 85 yards. First game taken with the new rifle. It was a slight quartering to shot.
Moved at least 1/2 of the insides to the outside. Cleaned off about 4" of tissue off of a couple of ribs that had separated from the sternum.

From another forum

I sent an email to Barnes asking what some of their bullets minimum impact velocities were on some of the bullets I use and this is the information I got back. Figured I'd share if others were curious like myself.

.277 129 gr. LRX- 1400 fps

.284 120 gr TTSX- 1700 fps
.284 139 gr. LRX- 1400 fps
.284 145 gr. LRX- 1500 fps

.308 150 gr. TTSX- 2000 fps
.308 168 gr. TTSX- 1500 fps
.308 175 gr. LRX- 1500 fps
.308 180 gr TTSX- 1500 fps

Hoping I don't get too much heat for bring back a thread that's a few months old, but curious what twist people are running who's rifles seem to favor the 145s over the 139s?

I recently relocated to Californistan for work. I left most of my guns in safe at my parents' place back in TX, but I did bring most of my bolt actions including my 280Rem. I've never played with lead free ammo but have an opportunity to hunt bear this fall and deciding between these two bullets (or maybe the 150gr CX). Barrel is a 1:8.7 twist Bartlein.

Barnes lists H4831SC as the "best" powder for the 145gr, which is an added plus since I've got buckets of it on hand.
