Backcountry 3-15x optic?

How about a 4-14 SHV F1? I literally was looking at getting either that NF or the Maven mentioned above. I already had one of each. I ordered the NF SHV. To me the NF just pleases my eye way more when I look through it. The Maven's glass just isn't as good. Also, the illuminated reticle doesn't look great when on at any level. The only downside to that NF is the Zero Set. Not as nice as the NF Zero Stop, but it works fine. I'm sure you've heard this before, but the NF can be dropped from a plane and still operate. Supposedly so can the Maven…but I'd put my money on the NF.
Good to know about the comparison between the SHV and Maven. I had a SHV 3-10 back in the day that I let get away. Wasn't a back scope either.

Leupold has nice feel, but I nothing to blow your mind performance wise. The Razor LHT is winner for weight, but everything else about it is sub par for quality. My preference is the NF NX8. Slightly heavier, but for hunting it's hard to beat their 2.5x20. Some complain about the eye box, but if your rifle is fitted well there won't be an issue.
Is there anything you'd recommend within the ~$1000 range, ~20oz, 3-15x?

Interesting. With the Maven being basically the same price, what features pushed you away from S&B?
This is my thread, the Schmidt comes up at post #17 and hopefully explains better than me reposting here

People have their likes and dislikes. Lots of subjective things about scopes.
I have no beef with NF, they are good scopes and I wouldnt turn anyone away from them. My limited experience with SHV's and NX8's was that they are fine but nothing earth shattering optically (nothing really is under $1500).

So to me the Maven punches way above its price class (so does the Bushnell LRHS2, those are very special IMO). Best thing you can do is compare stuff side-by-side

How often do you dial and how far do you shoot? I love the Reticle in the Razor LHT for black bears and everything else I typically shoot out to 400 yards. The lit dot is the perfect size and shows up great on a black bear at last light without washing the whole FOV in red. It has also dialed up and down for 4 years just fine. I do not shoot PRS or anything like that so I don't spin it til it's hot so there is that. I have also hunted it in 4 states from sea level to 12K, 80 degrees to minus 15 and it still runs great. Maybe I just got lucky and got the only LHT that hasn't failed. It could also be I'm just too hick stupid to recognize junk when I see it.

Roger that 👍
What other options are out there that land in the ~$1000 and <20oz range?
I also want no more than 3x on the low end and would prefer over 12x on top but would be willing to make concessions for top end magnification if price and weight still landed within my needs.

I have been on this quest for several years... still havent found the perfect scope, but so far my 'keepers' are;

Lrhs 3-12
Lrts 4.5-18
Klassik 3-12x50 ASV
Nxs 2.5-10x32

My advice? Try to find a used Bushnell LRHS 3-12x44. Only gripe; they seem slightly overweight, but that *might* just be the cost of reliability... will come in under budget (if you can find one).

Klassik will meet your weight requirement, but even used comes in slightly over budget. Gripes; these have limited elevation travel and fixed parallax.

I find it ironic that the Klassic is the only model on my list still in production, and yet it is oldest design of all 🤔

Good luck in your quest!

They do still make the NXS 2.5-10x42 which may be my favorite hunting scope of all time. Just no FFP or cool reticle options of the 32.

I missed my shot at a LRHS a few years back. They are in the heavier side of my wants though.

Helpful. Thank you.

I have a Trijicon Tenmile HX 5-25×50, Credo HX 2.5-15x42 as well as a NF SHV 5x20x56. They are all pretty similar optically and are tough as nails. They all track and return to zero well. I have had the Vortex LHT but sold it once I saw a Trijicon. The LHT was good optically but to me, everything else wasn't up to par compared to my NF, so I sold it for the Tenmile HX. The LHT turrets felt mushy, power ring was hard AF to turn and I always had problems with the illumination button. You can get a Credo for under 1k. I am thinking about selling or trading my Tenmile for another Trijicon or NF. Because like you, 25x is a little much. Between 14-20x seems to be the sweet spot for me. I would go with a Trijicon or NF.

I'd forgotten about Trijicon… that Credo is very interesting!
