I have owned, hunted, and used glass from:
Bushnell
Burris
Crimson Trace
Kahles
Leupold
Nikko Stirling
Redfield (originals and Simmons/Leupold)
Simmons
Swarowski
Schmidt & Bender
Tasco
Weaver
Zeiss
And several off-brands
you could do worse than a VX-5 CDS 3-15x44 for most day hunting.
You possibly could do better, at huge cost change.
I have reliably used a VX-5 on a Dumolin Mauser in .30 Hembrook to take Springbok at 505 yards (8 MOA Up on the dial) in the Karoo. The adjustments work like they should, it holds zero and clicks up and down like it ought to.
You could spend a lot more on German glass. But it's rare to find the same feature set. My S&B and Swarowski both have capped turrets and no parallax adjustment for the same price (on sale) as a Leupold every day price
You can get the Leupold for a grand on sale.
Try it and see?
