B.A.R.

I and my previous 9 man group all hunt with Belgian BAR`s....timber hunting in Wis. mostly 30-06`s...for 50 years..... cold weather,Snow.... yrs. ago it was -20*F..... 2` of snow...
Maybe 1-6 shots per year after rechecking zero.
Myself and brother do all the cleaning.... clean gas piston, barrel gas hole, carbon off all parts...oil for storage..... dry out for hunting....
VERY,VERY...litely oiled for the hunt..... my gun I shoot dry.....
my gun the barrel is shortened 3" and 1" taken off butt.... for faster handling....
I own alot of rifles.... for the type of hunting we do in WIS......... that BAR is what I use.....

I have one form the 90s, Belgium made in 270wsm. Love the rifle. I've never had issue with it. Found it in a pawn shop for $400 10 years ago. Cleaned it one time since. When it comes to auto hunting rifles I think the BAR holds the crown. Waiting to see what they release in them from shot show as I'm thinking of a new one myself.

I have one in 30-'06.
Taken a few deer and hogs with it and reload with 168gr Barnes TTSX to book standard. I've never had a problem with gun function with store bought or hand loads. It's now my truck gun since no matter what I run into, it's capable of taking. There's 3x9 Burris Signature scope on it.
No pictures, sorry...

From experience…any time you are planning an important shoot, either target or hunting, clean it thoroughly.

Does anyone here have 1 or more? I've been thinking about 1 in 300wm and the possibility of rebarreling (possibly same cartridge, but maybe another)? Looking for options on where and how to? Any pics would be nice as Browning's site isn't much help in that department.
I have one in .270 Win. Very reliable with factory ammo. If you reload use a small base sizing die. Mine is plenty accurate for 400 yard shots. I have other rifles for longer range.

I inherited my FIL's Belgium made .243 BAR. I have pellet guns that kick harder!!! It hadn't been shot in years. I shot about 10 rounds of Rem Core-Lockt that came with it. It performed flawlessly. I put it in the back of the safe and haven't shot it any more. I don't need it, but I can't possibly sell it. I doubt my son will ever use it, and I have a RA in .243 for the young kin that come to the farm to hunt.

Have to add that I grew up hunting a lot with BAR's from a wide range of production years. My dad's got half a dozen in the safe that he, my brother, grandfather and myself all hunted whitetail with and between us took dozens of deer. Never saw one jam, never sent one to a gunsmith. Just shoot it and clean it. Maybe if you're sending 1000 rounds through it at the range over the weekend? Hard to imagine grabbing one of these rifles out of the safe for that, though. If it's all 'gummed up' like another poster said, that's not because of the way the rifle's built. It's whatever gummy stuff someone is using to lube it or clean it.

I have one I bought new in 1987 in 300 WIN Mag. Always been reasonably accurate moa or so, some loads less. Kicks about the same as a bolt 30-06. Never checked into rebarrleing it. I did have an inch or so removed from the stock. I did have an issue once on a very cold morning with the firing pin hanging up. Haven't had an issue after taking it in every 3 years or so to have cleaned. It was an issue on the older ones, browning came out with there own oil for them. Called Bar oil of all things. Never had it jam once though. Don't think you can find a finer semi auto hunting rifle.

I finally saw what the lugs looked like, but not the chamber :( . Are the action lugs part of the receiver or more like barrel extensions? No barrel nut, so that seems more like a shouldered barrel on how it's headspaced?
