Ok TRoutslayer, here is what I got frm my ol bud Gowge. I figured that if anyone had some ideas about what your looking into it would be him. He has been in and around the net, guns and fishing reel improvements for years. So here is what he sent me,
OK - on powdercoating and guns, there's a problem with trying to do the finish at home. It's the size of the parts for the most part. Far easier, is to use one of Brownell's aerosol "Oven Bake" sprays and then bake the part(s) in the oven to cure them - one hour @ 300*F.

If you visit this link above, it shows you just ONE of the Brownell products. If you enter "Paint" in the search window and hit the GO button, you can see all the various paint finishes Brownell's offers. A guy put together a web page showing how he did an old Mauser rifle this way...

The link above shows the rifle action and his selection of paint, etc.
How he built an oven to cure the paint is on the link below:

He has some good ideas he's carried out that's proven to work...
The problems with powdercoating are many. The part must be electrically charged and the powder sprayed on the part with a special low pressure powder gun. I found the powdercoating stuff online at Harbor Freight Tools, but never did order all the goodies to put it together.

I was mostly interested in powdercoating small parts for reels and a small 'fluid bed' machine was determined to be the best route for that as well as powdercoating jig heads & small lures, etc. See the site below:

These folks have an awesome selection of the most beautiful paint samples you're likely to see. Order their catalog with the paint chips showing their samples if you're interested... They also offer a small fluid bed machine - perfect for lures & small parts.
Well I figured that I wold include it all since someone out there might want to introduce another brilliantly colored rifle. Ya never know. Anyway hope this helps.
