for most beliefs (lets say same gas port size regardless of platform and cartridge) less recoil mass equates into less recoil...........makes sense right...........some don't believe this to be true and stack an h4 (or heavier) along with a heavy bcg to reduce recoil..................does it really..................in some circumstances it does............for an unknown/proven cartridge out of safety reasons i used a 9.5oz buffer in my 6.5prc (since i had no experience with short mags in an AR) and the gun produced extremely little recoil.............in most part i believe and have used a low of weight recoil components (lm-bcg & buffer) in various platform and cartridges in both that have cycled perfectly and produced little recoil in a low weight rifle. none were a select fire or full-autos which would probably need heavy recoil components to cycle under these types? what would a + or - weighted spring really do/provide? bolt bounce?
