Well, its been a good couple weeks in the shop, got alot of rifles shipped and several more getting close. Been a while since I posted some porn on here so her goes.

This is one of my Xtreme Heavy Sporters in 338 Allen Magnum. The customer wanted a bullet capable of hunting elk at ranges as close as 500 yards so we went with the new Barnes 265 gr TTSX bullet. I was doing some ballistic testing with it here along with accuracy testing. Accuracy wise, loaded to 3550 fps, it would hold groups right there with the 300 gr SMK and 300 gr Berger Gen 2s. Ballistically, not as impressive but still pretty good with an estimated BC in the .620 range. Terminally, for close range impacts it should be pretty impressive at these velocities. 600 yard impact testing showed it would hold together well but often lost one or two petals. At 1000 yards, perfect X mushrooms. 1520 yards, again, full X mushrooms. Not as ballistically potent as the match bullets but out to 1000 yards, with its added velocity potential, it does extremely well and I would not think twice about centering a big bull elks shoulder at 300-400 yards even out of my 338 Allen Magnum.

Kind of a neat little lightweight rifle. This is the first 240 Wby I have built. Based on a Stiller receiver and light #2 Lilja contour barrel. This rifle shot extremely well, in fact, it shot right at 3/4 moa with the 95 gr Ballistic tip at 900 yards!!!! Thats WAY past what I would normally test this class of rifle out at but it was a very calm day and I was already set up so figured what the hell, the little wby did not disappoint. I would like to add that this reamer is my own specs made up with a shorter accuracy throat.

This is one of my Xtreme Sporters based on a Borden Alpine Magnum receiver chambered in 300 WSM. This rifle was a pleasure to test, no recoil at all, literally NO RECOIL with the PK muzzle brake. Smacking an clay pigeon size target at 1000 yards would become boring with this little rifle. I do like those little WSMs, especially the 7mm and 300. Nice compact, comfortable, mid weight rig.

Here is another Xtreme Sporter, this one in 338 Lapua with a BAT receiver and the new CIP length Badger Ord DM system. Very compact, light rifle that is easy to shoot with ALOT of power. I would prefer a bit shorter mag box length but for a real world elk hunting rifle this would be hard to beat.

This is a neat project. Basically its a hybrid of my Raptor LRSS rifle but with a slightly lighter contour barrel for a finish weight right between my Stalker and full blown LRSS. Chambered in 338 Lapua. Talk about a ***** cat to shoot. 1200 yard shooting was boring with this big stick!!! IT also uses the new 3 round Seekins DM boxes. Much better design for a big game hunting rifle then the 5 round version in my opinion.

One of my XHS in 375 Allen Magnum. I do not build ALOT of 375 AMs but when I do, MAN do they shoot. This rifle put 5 rounds into one large crater at 1050 yards. While not warm and fuzzy, the rifle is extremely comfortable to shoot when considering its performance range with the 350 gr SMK loaded to +3300 fps. Rifle based on a Stiller TAC408 receiver and my ALLEN32 contour barrel. I was impressed with the Stiller receiver, good option with the problems we have been having with Lawton lately.

Another one of my old XHS workhorses based on the BAT M single shot receiver chambered in 338 Allen Magnum. Can not say much about this one, just flat out shoots and feels like your shooting a 25-06 when you let a 300 gr SMK rip at 3300 fps. Again, 1000 yards is just boring with one of these rigs.

Enjoy, much more to come soon. Many more projects on the bench as we speak so if yours is up soon, expect to see it soon.

Thanks guys, I use the 180 gr Ballistic tip on that rifle. Guys get really hung up on ultra High BC bullets. Thats all well and good but they do not generally play well with the short stubby WSMs especially out of a repeating rifle.

The 180 gr BT has a .510 BC. Most will say this is not adequate for long range shooting. This is BUNK. Just have to read the conditions a bit better but they perform very well out to 1000 yards and in good shooting conditions, they are outstanding. Plus they open up very well at long range and retain good weight for good penetration.

Not sexy but they work and work very well.

Looks awesome Kirby! Can't wait to shoot her. Hoping to get a few notches on her this season. I'm sure that 300 gr Berger will be a hammer!gun)

You don't hear much about Nosler bullets and long range. But out to what some here consider moderate ranges (600-1000) they preform very well.

My 260 shoots the 120 B-Tips very well indeed.

Again good looking rigs. Get ready for more business.

Kirby, those are some fine examples of Precision long range equipment.
Love to see those big boomers with that beast of a brake. Looks like a
soon to be group of satisfied customers.

BTW, congrats on getting the new site up and running looks very detailed and informative, nice work.

Kirby...you are the man!! Awesome rifles and great site. If I get a pay raise or win the lottery, you'll be my first phone call! LOL Keep up the good work.

260shooter,

Not sure how long you have been on LRH but a couple years back a nice young man that went by the call sight GoodGrouper had a rifle I built for him chambered in a wildcat he designed, basically it was a 338 RUM Improved. Would run right there with the Edge and Lapua.

Anyway, he made many kills on elk at ranges well over 1200 yards using the 225 gr Accubond. Now, I am not sure what the exact BC for that bullet is but I believe its similiar to the .530 for the 160 gr 7mm Accubond. Also, only slightly higher then the 180 gr 30 cal and if you bump up to the 200 gr Accubond, your into the .580 range.

Ballistically, yes they do give up some performance to the match bullet, that is no doubt but most do not even give them a chance to see how they actually do perform at long range.

I have been told by several "experts" that the 160 gr Accubond is no good for long range shooting. I have also had "experts" tell my customers that this bullet is no good for long range shooting and that a 300 gr 338 bullet is "required" for good results at extreme range. Now I do not question the abilities of the big 338s, I am a huge fan. That said, lets look at some numnbers comparing my 7mm Allen Magnum with the 160 gr AB @ 3550 fps and say a 338 Edge with 300 gr Berger loaded to 2900 fps. Both with 300 yard zeros in a 10 mph wind:

338 Edge first
Yards...............Retained velocity............Energy............Drop................Drift
750....................2194 fps.......................3205...............11.25 moa.......2.5 moa
1000..................1984 fps.......................2621...............18.75 moa.......3.75 moa
1250..................1787 fps.......................2126...............27.75 moa.......4.75 moa
1500..................1602 fps.......................1710...............37.75 moa.......6.0 moa

Now the 7mm Allen Magnum
Yards...............Retained velocity............Energy...........Drop................Drift
750....................2351 fps.......................1964..............8.5 moa...........3.25 moa
1000..................2018 fps.......................1447..............14.75 moa.......4.75 moa
1250..................1716 fps.......................1046..............22.75 moa.......6.25 moa
1500..................1448 fps.......................771................31.5 moa.........8.0 moa

Now, obviously the big 338 with its higher BC and heavier bullet weight has an advantage in retained energy and also in drift but looking at the numbers, even at 1500 yards, the big 338 only has 2 moa less drift then the lowly 160 gr Accubond. Drop numbers are not even close. Inside 1000 yards, the Accubonds do very well.

Again, not saying anything bad about the Edge or any other 338, just that most have it in their mind that you need a 338 magnum to get consistant long range performance, that is simply not the only way to skin this cat. Depending on the game hunted and range being shot over, sometimes, many times actually the Accubonds will outperform the match bullets when you consider all factors such as closer range penetratation and weight retention, bullet expansion and integrity and consistant terminal performance.

Although not SEXY, the Accubonds, even some of the somewhat lower BC versions can perfrom extremely well at ranges out to 1000 yards. THey are often not given much of a chance however.
