Applied Ballistics Pro Support Thread

Applied Ballistics iOS version just posted by Apple, and in the next 24 hours will hit the different regions. If your phone is not set up to automatically update try doing it manually. If you run in to a bug please send it to me via email, what I need to know is:

Device
iOS Version
Region of the world you are in.
Settings
Basic weapon and ammo profile
Step by step how you got the problem to occur.

The more information you send the easier it is to track down the problem. I know this can be a bit much, but every little bit helps.

What does that update do for iphone owners?

What does that update do for iphone owners?

Updated bullet library to include the 400 bullets from the lab.

Couple of stability fixes.

Little tweaks here and there behind the scenes.

No in app purchases of Custom Drag Curves, yet. Still waiting on Apple on that one.

Just downloaded new version. The library lists 2 Berger 30cal fullbore bullets 155.5 & 156 grain. I can't find a 156 on Berger website. Is this a discontinued product?

Doc,
I'm using Berger 155.5's. Is there a BC that you can give me for those bullets if I point them?
Also, when the custom curves become available for the iPhone, how does it deal w/ pointed vs unpointed bullets?
Thanks,
Bill

You can use the Ballistic Calibration to compensate for pointed bullets, or you can hand adjust the BC.

If you point them I would expect to see a 2-4% increase in BC however I wouldn't be able to give you an exact answer. That would require you to live fire them, simply because I dont know to what level you are pointing. I barely point mine, just enough to close the tip, some people are more aggressive. If that makes sense?

Doc,
Thanks for the reply. That makes sense about the amount of pointing. As far as using the ballistic calibration to adjust, isn't that a velocity adjustment? I thought that it was not considered ideal to adjust velocity to compensate for BC.

If adjusting the BC, am I correct that I would simply adjust the BC until the POI prediction in the App. matched the actual POI (ideally just below transonic)?

Any idea when the custom curves will be available for the iPhone app?

I appreciate your help,
Bill

It does more than just adjust velocity. If you are using a Custom Curve, it will not allow you to adjust the BC, so you take our measured G7 Average then start tweaking, or use the Calibration and the Custom Curve. But the DSF is more than just a change in velocity.

In iOS, when I go into ballistic calibration the only options are range and drop.

If you can't adjust bc in custom curves, am I correct that the only way to true the curve is by changing velocity?

What is DSF?

Any idea when iOS custom curves will be available?

Thanks.

That is correct, it needs to know the exact range, and the exact drop that the bullet experienced. However velocity is not the only thing going on behind the scenes.

When you choose to use a Custom Curve, the BC will show 1.0, however encrypted in is the Custom Drag Curve.

DSF is Drop Scale Factor (What you will see on the Kestrel and in AB Tactical)

iOS Custom Drag Curves will be available once we get the go ahead from Apple to sell them.

No velocity is not the only thing being changed.

Hey Doc,

Maybe this has been covered, I'm a bit late to the thread. Do I have to use the AB Advanced to use custom curves for BCs or is there a way to do it in AB Mobile? I have AB Mobile on my Droid Maxx, and am shooting 215 gr hybrids and 208 Amax from a 300WM 24in barrel. My intent is to use this platform to extend into and beyond transonic, possibly move up to the 230gr Hybrids Hybryd OTMs in order to step it out. Also can I get AB for my desktop and advanced for my Droid?

Thanks Doc,

DocB
