Anyone tried Hammer bullets

This ^^^^^^^ that is the reason that Partition's have not been brought into our home since the early '90's…..when I was introduced to Barrnes mono's.

I found that with a high velocity impact, the forward jacket folds tightly against the remaining "shank/base", only marginally larger than the original bullet diameter……with the forward lead portion of the bullet vanishing into small fragments of lead! Plus, while OK, I could rarelyget the accuracy I wanted from the Partitions!

And "like a fine wine"…..the Barnes monos have gotten better with age! Our (wife andI) only "hunting" bullets since the early'90's! memtb

I'm all over the map when it comes to bullet selection. I can't resist testing new bullets and finding loads for them. But I'll be the first to admit it, that obsession has burned out a lot of expensive barrels.

I have loads developed for 2 of the 3 cartridges I shoot, the 143HH for my .280AI and the 120HH in my 7-08. It was very easy to develop the loads and they shoot extremely well and are very effective with proper shot placement. Their customer support is 5 star. It doesn't take much to kill a whitetail, but the accuracy I achieve with Hammers, I have the confidence to place the bullet with minimal meat loss. However, once I get a load developed and load enough for hunting, I switch to other bullets to shoot and practice due to $$. I also hunt with Nosler BT's and Barnes TTSX this year.

I love to take relatively inexpensive rifles and try different powders, pri.ers, and bullets to get them to shoot really good groups. If nothing else works....loading hammer bullets in any gun will make them shoot amazing. They're my secret weapon on making the mossberg atn(?) 100 shoot i/2 " groups with correct powders and primers. They are pretty rough....but can shoot really good. Oh...I also change out the trigger.

I'm very cheap……found sump'n that works, and have stuck with it for many years! Part of my "long term" plan! 😉 memtb

I think I have witnessed my daughter kill 7 out of 7 whitetail with her 7-08 using 113gr Stone Hammer(formally known as Sledge(?) Hammer. muzzle velocity is 3200fps

It is extremely dependable and repeatable with 100% of the kills being exactly the same, shots from 50-150yards. The bullet expands breaking into 4-5 pedals making a starburst type wound channel around the main channel. The base continues and exits the offside. I have yet to recover a base in a Whitetail(I have in ballistic tests). The deer either drops or runs 40-50yards leaving a blood trail you can see from the moon.

I would and will let her run this bullet into any game animal in the continental USA under 400yds including oryx, elk, nilgai and black bear

Aoudad are on the menu next

I have not tested the Hammer bullets at long range(600 and beyond)

I have also worked up loads for a 338wm and both were very easy to tune

Faster than same weight cup and core? No.

The Absolute Hammers are a little faster when using the right powder for them. I never saw the 200fps faster as claimed.

But I have found them plenty accurate for hunting.

BC is overstated from every one I have tried.
My 25-06 shoots the 90gr Absolute Hammers to 3611 fps with RL-16. If I could source RL-26 it would likely be over 3650. I'm not seeing C&C load data on Hodgdon's or Alliant's website that mimicks my Hammer data.

I've killed 6 deer with Hammers now. 25-06 90gr, 6.5 CM 85gr, and 270 WSM 122gr. All one shot kills, all dead at 30 yards or less from where I hit them.

My tracking skills are starting to slip from long periods on non use....

Are they really that much faster and how do they work on deer.
I found them to be the about the same as Barnes monos in terms of velocity. Hammer seems optimistic with their velocity numbers and Barnes seems conservative based on my testing. You may not get the max velocities that Hammer lists. I found the 132 HHT shot extremely well in my 7mm-08 but disappointed I had a harder time getting accuracy with the 125 HHT for my 6.5 PRC. I think it was the chambering and not the bullet. The 132 HHT in 7mm-08 was flying at ~ 2950 with 44 grains of Varget @ .5 moa. I may try the 139 Stone Hammer for the 6.5 PRC because I'd like to find an elk capable load. Hammers are a really good quality bullet tho and worth a try for sure. Just get the sample packs to make sure. I've found Barnes to be darn accurate as well for my PRC and little less expensive so that is what I used this year. It produced golf ball sized exits and very lethal on mule deer. I was flying the Barnes 127 LRX at ~ 3150 with 58 grains of N560. I suppose you have lots of options. Have fun and good luck!
