Anyone running a 1:8" twist in a 7mm-08?

It is not about bullet weight, it is about bullet length, plastic tip length, and velocity; with bullet length being driven by lead core with jacket vs. mono-metal for a given weight and bullet design (e.g. VLD vs. traditional) for example a a 160 grain Hornady CX will not stabilize in 1:9 @ 2700 fps but 162 Cup/Core BTSP will and a Berger 168 will also.
It's borderline in a 9 twist at 2700. At 4000' above sea level, it's stable. It's not stable below that elevation. And 8.5 twist or faster is best for sure. I run the 160CX bullets in my 9 twist barrel at 4000 ft and they are just fine. Hornady recommends an 8 twist on the box. Solids definitely require a faster barrel.

That's good to know. I was thinking about trying some solids due to mass retention.
