I have been contemplating setting something up but most subsonic ammo does not seem like a very good option unless hunting under 50 yds. Seems like the best choice is either 450 bushmaster or 45/70 but still limited to 100yds or less which is the majority of my shots anyway. Looks like 45/70- gets a slight nod but there is a much larger list of options for 450 bushmaster and ammo is slightly cheaper. I already have a 45/70 but would need to be threaded which I won't do. Its a ruger #3.

I've used Lapua subsonic .308 to drop a number of hogs when I was in SC. All shots were within 50 - 75 yards, but were very effective. I forget the ballistics, but after a certain yardage the bullet basically falls off a cliff in terms of drop. I was hunting small clearings in pine forests, so it worked well for me.

I wouldn't hesitate to use subsonic .308 again.

Took a deer this year with my subs and a 300 blackout with 200 grain maker bullets, it worked great on the six point I would love to try them on a hog possibly this summer.

I was using 308 and it works. I shifted to the 300 Bo for a little more accuracy. It is my subsonic so it is slow version of Longrange hunting. Makers and cavity back bullets

Thanks

Buck

That doesn't seem right. Are you shooting subsonics in your 308 and supersonics in your 300 blackout? I shoot both those rounds, but have never tried subsonic in 308. Subsonics in 300 blackout is fun, but I've been shooting supersonic with 110 CX bullets, that's a solid 200 yard gun on hogs. I have 8.6 blackout, but won't be able to take it out before July when the new season starts out west. Hoping that the 185 or 210 grain supersonics will be an even better hog gun that will easily reach out to 400+ yards. This is just scratching the surface of long range hunting, IMO.
