Anyone here shoot a 260

I have a .260 Rem in SAKO 85 grey wolf and I love it. It shoots ANYTHING you put through it great. I had to rely on chrony data to work up a load because you couldn't tell anything from just the group sizes--.7 to about .9 moa. I tried seven powders, AA-2520, IMR-4320, WW-760, IMR-4350, RL-17, RL-19 , IMR 4831 and six bullets --129 gr Hndy SST, 130 gr Nos AB, 130 gr Barnes TTSX, 140 gr Sierra Game King, 140 gr Nos Partition, 142 gr Nos ABLR. I wound up using 142 gr Nosler Accubond LR bullet due to BC, 43.5 grs of RL-19, CCI BR-2 primer and Lapua Brass. The series of RL powders comparable to IMR & H series seemed to give abut 80-100 fps advantage in velocity in my rifle. I get 2770 fps out of that load with SD of 6 from a 21.5 in barrel.

I have been shooting the .260 long enough I have several loads with H414 and IMR4350, love Super Performance too. I like the 125 partitions and all the 130 pills. My kids started shooting the .260 with 100 grain Partitions and they work fabulously on deer. Mag Primers are OK but work up loads accordingly. I shot Fed 215s in all my .260s for years and tried the WLR about 15 years ago and got still better accuracy.

Just picked up a tikka t3 in 260. Starting load work up for it. I have rl23, RL26, rl16 and some H4350. 130 game changers is what I'm starting with. I have some loads ready with 16 and 23 with federal 215 magnum primers. 43-44.5 loads. I see different load data from Sierra and one says good and one says I'm to much. Are magnum primers going to be a bad idea? I used them in my creedmoor just fine.
I shoot a 260 in my heavy barrel rem 700 with McMillan bench rest stock ! H4350 is the powder the rifle llikes to shoot with 4831sc also in the running ! I touch the lands with a 140 berger vld ! It shoots a 1/4 inch group at 100

I have a 260ai, if i dont want to load for it, i will buy hornady eldm box ammo to play with and it puts them under 1/2 inch with a 20inch tube 8 twist. Berger ammo in 130 is almost as good. If you are just not wanting to waste reloads, and in my case, im fireforming at the same time. Win win

Alliant reloading data from their book.. 130 gr bullet.. 42.9 reloader 16 fed 210 primer vel 2915.

140 gr serria bt reloader 16 41.0 gr- fed 210 primer = 2764. I think with other powders you may increase you vel but this gives you and Idea.. I think you should get 2800 with the 140 but one has to expeiment.. that is the best part of reloading. the length of you barrel will make a big difference.

I've owned 5 260 Remington rifles been shooting since 2000. Still have 3 and will always have one in the safe. Pretty easy to load for of the powders you list I've tried H4350 and RL26. H4350 is always a good choice. I have not tried magnum primers and don't believe they are necessary. I have used Rem 9.5, CCIBR2 and fed 210M of those best accuracy has been with Rem 9.5 not by a bunch but enough.

I have found H4831SC to be the most accurate with 120, 130 and 140's. Win 760 and H4350 second I have not tried magnum primers with W760 but would not be surprised to hear it shot great. H100V was another good one.

I 4064 with 100's. RL16 and 23 look real good to me as well. 7828SSC and RL22 are also great choices.

It's easy to start picking nits with these rifles 1/2 MOA has been achievable with all to common regularity 1/4 MOA is more than possible.

I think you will like that T3 I have heard lots of good reports on them my Sako 85 is extremely accurate and made by the same company. It has shot MOA with every reasonable powder bullet combination.

Be sure and post your results.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all

Would be interesting to see how long the throat is. Mine is extremely long to the point I swapped out the bolt release for a 270 30/06 and run a long mag. COAL is 3.08" with Berger 140VLD's
Pet load is 44gn ADI 2209 (H4350/IMR4350)
I have tested with success 45.2gn but have found my T3 in 260 and the wife's 308 have a perfect load for different temps
-10'c to 5'c, 15'c and 30'c+

Just picked up a remington for my wife and am still gathering data, curious to see what other guys are using. Lots of good information so far

Most powders used in the volume range of the 308 based cases don't need a magnum primer and will generally get better results with the large rifle primer. Magnum primers may give you slightly more velocity, but along with that comes more pressure. I would recommend trying different standard large rifle primers to get the best SD,s and accuracy. Magnum primers are not the go to primers in many cartridges and even some of the magnum cartridges. In some rifle cartridge combinations, LR primers perform better/More accurate than Magnum primers. Huge cartridges with copious amounts of slow burning powder need magnum primers and should use them, but small cartridges with less than 65 to 70 grain capacity can/will often benefit from standard rifle primers.

Magnum primers will work fine in small capacity cartridges but other than having trouble finding load data that uses magnum primers (For the reasons discussed) you might be missing out on some fantastic accuracy by using them.

Try some standard rifle primers and then switch brands to find out which gives the best accuracy. I have foung the best SD's and accuracy using the CCI BR 2 in the 260, 260 AI, 7/08, 7/08 AI and the 308 Win using the powders I prefer for these cartridges.
