Anyone have load data for reloader 26 in 308 Winchester ? I'm not getting the velocity I want with varget, case is stuffed full, still no pressure signs and not as fast as I want. I have a big jug of rl 26 and it has done amazing things in other calibers including 6.5cm so I'm thinking it should work for 308.

If you need more speed in a 308 cfe223 is your best option. Very small window between max and over pressure loads so work in small increases. That said I'm getting 2825fps with imr 4064 and 168 grain Hornady btsp in my 308. Pretty accurate also

RL26 won't work. Even in a 6.5 Creedmoor, which requires slower powders to get velocity, you use a full case of RL26 to reach max. You'd never come close in a .308

Disagree on the 6.5, but it is too slow for the 308. I checked a simple case fill, and I could hardly get a minimum charge in the case with a 175 RDF.

RL26 is a medium-slow powder, and unsuitable for the .308. Go with CFE223. RL26 is recommended for 300WM and the other Magnum cartridges, and for the 30-06 with 180 and above bullets. IMR 4064 is also a good powder for the .308. CFE 223 is showing at least 75fps increase over varget and the other recommended powders listed in the 2019 Hodgdon manual, though. It would depend on what you're going to shoot it in, though. But if you want more horsepower, don't try to turn the .308 into the 30-06. Just get a Ruger in 30-06. Take a look at the 30-06 and Superperformance as an example. It does to the 30-06 what CFE223 does to the .308, giving it about another 100 to 150 fps over conventional powders. If you're going with a 20 inch barreled .308, though, CFE223 is the way to go. It will duplicate conventional powders and velocities in 22 inch barrels through a 20 inch one. I wouldn't use it in a semi-auto until I talked with Hodgdon, though.

Thanks for the input but the problem with cfe223 is that it is very temperature sensitive. I hunt in weather from over 100 degrees to less than 10. I need something stable.

What's wrong with h4895??? It's about the right burn rate for a 308 with most bullet weights. It's temp. stable (better than ball powder anyway) and the case fill will be about correct. Everyone wants to reinvent the wheel when they really ought to be buying a bigger stick.
If you want to play with rl powder in your 308 rl15 is your friend.
