Anyone ever see a barrel like this?

That look was pretty popular around where I live 20 or so years ago. I've never tried it myself but was told the barrel is polished to a mirror finish then an orbital sander with like 40-60grit was used to put the scratches in

Guys looked at the simplicity of an 80 grit matte bead blast and thought "nah we can do better, uglier, different".

Many moons ago a welder decided to become a boat builder, his first boat was rough looking as it had been scratched pretty hard when being bent around the jigs. Guy decided to do a fish gill pattern like bolt jeweling to cover the scuffs. Skiff was bought by an eccentric highliner and used it to good effect. So much so others started asking for the pattern. By the time I was old enough to be in the market it had become an 1800 to 2000 option. What had started as an accident, had become a premium.

Probably missing out on a marketing bonanza. I've a childhood friend who would shove sea urchin suppositories up his keister if the right guy on rokslide promoted it. This could be the official finish for all the guys chasing big game around with a fast twist Tikka in 223.... move over cerakote there is a new finish in town.
