Years ago while living/working on a ranch I feed cattle and watched over the calving.
The coyotes would come in to 'clean' up the afterbirth.
When a cow or calf died I would stage the carcass by a tree visible from my home or while driving by.
The key was to tie up every appendage to the tree.
If not the coyotes would run off with a limb to eat in a safer location!
