American Airlines “lost” my rifle

Never lost a firearm in transit, but I have on a couple of occasions experienced a day or two with it "lost", but eventually found. I did, in every occasion, make a "huge stink" with the airline management.
About 10 years ago my buddies and I started to fly First Class when traveling with my firearms, making sure that all bags had the big red "Priority Tag" attached to each bag and the gun case at check-in. Costly, but we have not had an issue or late arrival of my firearm or baggage since doing this.

Just left the airport picking it up it was found and sent to my local terminal everything was fine
Had some help with locating it I'm very thankful for the help I received
This was my first time flying with firearm so really had no clue what I was doing thinking it would be ok will do a few more steps if I decide to fly again

I can only imagine your relief at concluding this experience.
On seeing the title of this thread I thought of a song that came out quite a few years ago. I thought it was about American Airlines as well but it was called "United Breaks Guitars"

Great to hear it was found and in your hands. I wonder if some rules differ with the different airlines. I've only flown once with a gun but I had to go to the desk and show ID to recieve it on both arrivals to and from. They wouldn't just put it on the carousel with the rest of the bags. Reading here apparantly that's not always the case.

Happened to me. Call airport police and then immediately call ATF. Have your serial number and a photo if possible. Mine was found in Omaha. I flew from Maui to Seattle to Spokane so how it ended up in Omaha is a mystery. Once ATF calls the airport and airline, things moved very quickly. 6 days total and it was delivered to my house. Police don't seem to bother the airlines but all of them move when the ATF calls on them.

That is excellent news. Thank God.
