Allen Mag Shooters Group

Re: Allen Mag Shooters Group -In the interest of sharing info

I can certainly relate. I was talking to Kirby about that last week.

No worries on the pills, I decided to leave my 300Rum a 300Rum. When I smoke my 270AM barrel I will put the Edge barrel on that reciver and build a new 270AM on a Lawton.

Have a good one

Hogs seasoned in TX or free game year round?

[/ QUOTE ]

Year round, we season them with salt, pepper, a little cayanne, sometimes wrapped in bacon and jalapeno, mixed in with various other things.

As for the numbers, well there are pleanty to go around. Shoot just give it a while and they should be up there round you. THey are moving faster than the fire ants did, and doing twice the damage. The only thing they are better at is table fare.

On the bullets, we talked it over and decided to get what we needed up front, and then only have to worry about shooting them up. Sounds like a bunch till you get through developing a load, and then doing the drops and such and so fourth. Besides the "oh hell I just got to check this out times."

You will see it don't take long to dump a hundered or so, and then your just getting to know the thing halfway decent. The hard part is keeping the **** things loaded up so you got some to shoot.

Re: Allen Mag Shooters Group -In the interest of sharing info

Ok! I just ordered 400 169.5 gr.....that should last a pretty good while!

I sent Nosler an email last friday inquiring on some 7RUM brass...still no response!

Is 869 872 the best powder? What about Big boy or Retumbo?
has anyone tried anything else?

Re: Allen Mag Shooters Group -In the interest of sharing info

Nyles brings up some questions I have as well related to the 270 AM on Brass and Powder, Nosler or Remington? Powder, which ones and why. Anyone using Retumbo? Just getting components now as we await the death ray machine from Kirby. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Per the designer: Ball powders only. Bridging causes pressure spikes with the stick powders. That's what Kirby says/cautions and I've learned (the hard way with brass) to follow Kirby's recommendations/instructions.

Re: Allen Mag Shooters Group -In the interest of sharing info

Roy,

Not to be hardheaded but the post "Kirby needs a website" Says in there ok for powders used in the 7mm and 300RUM.

Says that "ball only" on the 257. Im sure Kirby will clear this up and youve got yours and should know. Just getting it straight.

Wife says tell you that crooked letter crooked letter thing is for children in other states not smart enough to learn how to spell Mississippi in kindergarden!LMAO!

Re: Allen Mag Shooters Group -In the interest of sharing info

Nosler said "NO" about any 7RUM brass anytime soon. So I guess Ill use Nosler 300RUM.

Re: Allen Mag Shooters Group -In the interest of sharing info

NYLES,

Lets not get the wives in this banter. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif That would be a couple of leagues above where I'm comfortable playing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The powder thing may well be one of my mind things where I read it about one AM and applied to all of them.

However, ball powder is supposed to be a bit easier on bore errosion due to its shape and components. Plus it seems to work pretty good. Its a lot easier to measure, pour and trickle IMO.

Also, 869 fills the case just about the right amount to be able to use the flash tube with that same amount of powder and do some pressure/velocity/accuracy comparisons. I have high hopes for the project.

Re: Allen Mag Shooters Group -In the interest of sharing info

Better to have em widus than againus!

I see 869 as what everybody else is shootin! No need in rockin the boat. Plus thats what I have some data on. Ill probably be in there close to Mike and Tim sea level considered.

Did you film us a big Elk outa season yet?

Re: Allen Mag Shooters Group -In the interest of sharing info

I have some 869 to test but the high graphite content of WC872 will keep me there as long as it performs like it has.
Kirby turned me on to this trick from a cold barrel shoot what you have, check barrel heat, then shoot some max loads of 872, then check the heat, never saw a rifle shoot 3 rounds of a stovepipe full of powder and not get hot, that has to help barrel life

Re: Allen Mag Shooters Group -In the interest of sharing info

I tend to agree with you but shoot 869 as I bought 8 lbs of it and am too tight/lazy to jump through what little hoops there are to get 872. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Plus, I'm down to shooting 1 shot groups except for the 1K target. Then its a 2K walk between shots. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I just gotta get me a gong out there. Then it would be a 2K walk to repaint, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
