All about private messages??

I have had 3 instances just in the last two weeks. I PMd a well known member about buying and selling something in the classified section. And they got a text from someone stating they are me and how to proceed with the transaction. I think someone has hacked into the main system and has all of our information and is able to see our PMs

Have you ever put your cell number on the forum?

Definitely in the day. I have been a member since 2010. I know we all probably have at one point. Not saying it's not my fault, it is. it's just technology has caught up in these forums.

That's probably how they found it. If these scammers worked this hard at an actual job they would probably do well in life.

I've already removed access to all expired classifieds. I'm pulling rights from archive.org as well. They are texting folks, which 100% of the people have shown to have posted their number or email address publically.


We are working on other aspects - as our system is secure, and spreading false chatter like this (our system has been hacked) does not serve the community well.

I've never posted mine in the public forum, just in PMs, and still did get a text from someone pretending to be the buyer.
So, I suspect they're accessing our PM system too, or something is happening...

Did you report the post this happened on? I've been running tracker to see who is access classifieds- so it should help get me closer to what they are doing - as well as any services being accessed.

No, and I'm sure I deleted it as I knew it wasn't the correct person. If it occurs again I'll let you know.

Don't know if it will help, but I would at least change my PASSWORD.

I'm definitely sure changing your password Rick will not help him at all....
