The Nostalgia "back in my day" threads are always fun.

The fundamental difference now, is the speed of the change. I've a friend who is a college senior, ammo and life in general has increases as much in his 4 years of college as it did for me from my freshman year in college (using the year we turned 18) to my 35th birthday. My "good ol days" were near 20 years ago, but objectively his good old days were his freshmen year.

When I was a kid the principal would put our 22's in a wall locker and hand them back at the end of the day…dinner was pot luck.

In 1970 I can remember the service stations would have gas wars and got gas for 17 cents a gallon. At the same time the family farm was purchasing farm diesel for 6 cents a gallon.

And then the big boys bought each other up and closed the other guy's refineries and sent prices thru the roof. Few refineries left these days, about like powder plants

Kinda like insurance...
In the mid 80's, my Blue Cross Blue shield ins for a family of 5 was around 30 bucks a week, thru my employer. Now? My unionized company pays it all, somewhere around 400 dollars a week.
My wages have gone up, and I have not done the comparison analysis, but I'd bet it's a bit more expensive nowadays.

Yeah... I just did the math. About a 30% increase. Wages then vs. Ins, 8%.
Wages now vs. Ins.......35%. Almost wish I hadn't done that.

Neither can I but I do remember the late 50's when you could buy a dozen eggs for .50 cents or in 1968 you could buy a 68 big block Corvette convertible for $4900.00. Sorry you missed the best of the old days...

1967 my dad bought a 67 Shelby GT500 for $5700! Should have bought several of them, but in those days, that was a lot for a car!

Ahh the old days. Dug this out of a tote the other day. It was purchased in 1977 to load my new 7mm RM Ruger M77. Used surplus 4831 powder.

I remember my dad going to work in the wax plant in the sixties and he made like $1.70 an hour. The last year I worked there which was 1996 I made like $44,000. Things definitely change.
