The Nostalgia "back in my day" threads are always fun.
The fundamental difference now, is the speed of the change. I've a friend who is a college senior, ammo and life in general has increases as much in his 4 years of college as it did for me from my freshman year in college (using the year we turned 18) to my 35th birthday. My "good ol days" were near 20 years ago, but objectively his good old days were his freshmen year.
