I am likely to get my rem 700 action tuned up this winter but I was wondering about which smith to use. Is the work that Greg Tannel does on an action worth the extra money? From his website it says he charges $450 to completely go through the action and the bolt, and that includes parts such as a new firing pin and lug.
Most other smiths seem to charge about $250 for action truing. I want the to be the limiting factor on my rifle's accuracy and precision, not the rifle. I intend to shoot some competitions with the rifle as well as hunt with it.
So my question is, is it worth the extra $200 to send to the action to Gre-tan over having someone else true up the action?
