This video appeared in my feed this morning. It reminded me of one of my first hunts in south Texas. A guy that I met at a bar was buying rounds of beer for everyone. I too ended up with a cold one right after I bought my first cold one.
We became very well acquainted. I met his wife and was invited to backyard BBQs and the like. About a year later he asked if I wanted to join him on hunting trip in south Texas. One of their regulars on this yearly trip of four couldn't make it this year. They needed a fourth and I agreed. He told me the hunt was paid for and I would be going as a guest.
We drove down there in a small caravan. I always take my own car / truck on any hunting trip where we drive. It was late on a Thursday evening. The sun had about set and we unpacked our gear and made ready for the hunt the next morning. I was about ready to bed down when the guys were unpacking freshly pressed jeans and shirts, freshly brushed Resistol cowboy hats and highly polished Justin roper boots. After a split second I realized that hunting four legged deer wasn't the only game they were after.
I had zero clue because when I go hunting for four legged deer that's what I go hunting for. I wasn't married or dating anyone at the time but each one of these guys were married and had kids. Including the guy that I made friends with, the guy who I am friends with his wife and the guy who has a barely year old child at home. BTW I was invited to the baptism of their child.
So here they are ready to go to a beer joint. They purposely didn't tell me about their other activities because they figure what I didn't see with my own eyes I cannot testify to. Their logic was so totally fouled up.
Now if they were all single men and usually go to the beer joint on a hunting trip that's one thing. But when their all married and have children this behavior is a NO GO.
Believe it or not I decided not to stay. I told that friend that I liked his family. That I consider his wife a friend and if something happened I wasn't going to lie for him in order to cover his tracks. He tried to convince me that they do it all the time with the blessing of their wives. I asked him that if i were to call his home and ask his wife would she agree. His big s**t eatin' grin came off his face. I would never lie for a married man so that he can get one over on his wife. And a real friend would never put me in that situation.
I haven't spoken to him since that trip nor gave it a thought until this video hit my feed.
