Hello,

I'm relatively new to reloading . I have some experience. I have been looking at the 88 grain bullets . I have read a lot of posts on this subject . My OAL is 2.533 with the 88s . With the 22/250 case at 1.912 . There is quite a bit of that bullet down in the case . With H4831sc (33 grains ) it would be compressed a bit . I have concerns about how far the bullet is seated down in the case ? What are your thoughts ??? Thank you !

Is your OAL limited by the lands? If not, seat longer.

John

And if the lands are limiting you might give the 75 and 80 Eldm s a go…. Take quite a bit less room/capacity. Still have good BC.

I have a 22-250AI 1-7" twist, my buddy has the 1:8" twist 22-250, he has had issues with certain 88g bullets, like RDF, Berger Hybrid and a custom target bullet. He only uses shorter bullets now like Nosler CC and Lapua ScenarL.
You may be fine, but oblong holes is an indication of instability.

Cheers.

You may wish to begin with the 80's, but I have a 1/8" twist in 22-250 AI with a long throat that shoots the 88's well. Those bullets are seated long for more powder capacity, and that powder is usually 7828SSC. It gives me a little more velocity than 4831.

Yes . I am fine with magazine length . My OAL is limited to the lands . I am aware off other powders that would not take as much volume in case .I have H4831sc on hand .
With 33g I would be fine , up to 36g I would be compressing. I have attached a couple pics . The case has 35gains .

I have read posts where some guys had great success with this combination.
I appreciate the comments good or bad ! Thanks .

Have you shot any loads with that combination yet? How is it shooting?
I wouldn't worry about a little powder compression, that won't hurt anything.
If you can't get the 88 to shoot well (it is on the border line in an 8 twist), then go to the 77grain Sierra TMK.
You won't give up too much in long range performance, the Sierra is an accurate bullet and has a proven track record on game and varmints.

A Berger 80.5 Full Bore bullet will solve all of your problems. It is much better suited to your 8" twist and will alleviate the case capacity issue. They have a well-earned record for accuracy.
