To get the same case capacity with a 175gr berger and a hornady 175gr eld i have to add .065 in length which is puts it over sa mag length.

I forgot you have an original chamber also, so throating is your better option likely.
What is your mag length?

I'm looking at 2.955 oal with the 180gr eldm and adding .010 to that to get the correct freebore for my rifle. Currently it's at 2.890 oal. Is this the proper way to set freebore ?

If you have M5 capability, Hawkins Hunter mags are 2.980"
And it feeds great.
